I notice that golf cart with grandiose aspirations of yours doesn't even have a ROPS.

Am confused...it's not a golf cart...and does have a ROPS. Agreed, bad things CAN happen but I don't see the OP as taking unrealistic risks...his road is straight, wide, doesn't look amazingly steep to me, and he's fully familiar with it. There might be ruts in it that would make things tippy, but they were not obvious to me.

I was deep in the woods to grab a leftover ash tree. Bucked it up and felt confident the 500 would pull the trailer full of wood up the hill. There is only 2 ways out of the bottom valley. Both hills are just as steep, just one is shorter than the other. I figured on about 3 loads using the trailer to get the tree out of there.

Pic shows the hill from the drivers seat, locked down all 3 wheels and gave her a shot.........Nope. Unloaded a few rounds and tried again..........Nope. Unloaded some more.........Nope. Finally with only 3 rounds on the trailer and 4 in the 500's bed I made it up the other longer hill but not without a struggle. Made it back to the house and ditched the trailer and made several trips with just loading the rounds in the bed. Made it up the original hill no problem this way. The 500 has found its way in what I use it for, but some days I need more grunt. I should add, I feel most of my problem was traction issues. May have fared better with ATV tires.

Thats quite a load you had on there.
Ash is pretty heavy, and with the beautiful scenery you have there,
a few trips back and forth and enjoy the surroundings, is what it's all about.

I have an ash that size ready to come down. Just waiting for the snow to melt. I will have to use my tractor however, as I sold my ATV to buy the tractor. Can't have everything when you're retired. Most of the ash trees here in the Adirondacks are on their way to being things that were, thanks to the emerald ash beetle.

My limited experience with a 4x4 ATV is that they can hardly climb over a wet log. A simple set of tire chains can turn a lawn mower into a stump puller. Op likely used his ATV cause it would be much quicker and comfortable. The trailer Axle location equates to near zero tongue weight if loaded evenly. I'd put a set of ladder tire chains on the ATV and never have another issue pulling that hill.

Your right, Dave,,but he already has the machinery, if needed to do that.
He was just "testing' the ability of his ATV and realized it wasn't up to standard for what he wanted
at the time, he was also letting others know of this.
I'm sure, if he wanted to put chains, etc, etc, he could get this puppy to perform,
but I really don't see why , like he said, he has the machines to do this already.

My "Mule" is the same, these rigs got enough umph usually, just not enough weight to get the "umph" to the ground. Run what cha brung! I have enough acreage that my next utv is going to be a old toyota pickup with the door's pulled off.

Not to many Ash left around me as well. The ones that are here are hard to get to and get out the woods. Most are in the wet areas.

Tough crowd. I can say I've pulled a larger trailer than that with my Polaris Ranger 500. Don't always have a tractor handy.

I almost bought one of them, had six wheels with the dump cart thingy at the back,

You was loaded really heavy with that ash...
I don't know what your ATV is spec'ed out for load carrying capacity...
I would bet that on level ground you would have been OK...
We just purchased a used Toro Workmaster for our baseball fields at the park and I think that it is rated for 850# load capacity...
On level ground it does fine but I've never tried to pull that kind of load up a hill...
The belt drive automatic transmission is not best suited for extreme pulling...
Don't be too hard on yourself or your ATV...
It is a good machine...

Yeah the 6 wheel ones will go just about anywhere. A friend of mine had one, and you're right, you don't see too many of them.
