Well I checked and there are no splines on the shaft. The shaft also has a circlip at the end that would hold the yoke on if the bolt would shear. I guess I have both and I am in luck. Thanks for the help all.

Yes you are right. They do look very similar. I have to agree.

I will have to look closely at mine to see if there are casting marks.

I have a similar setup on an old IH 500 brush hog. I run both the clutch and shear bolt. To date I haven't had the bolt break, but I do mow some pretty heavy sugar maples with this rig. one question, why is the slip clutch attached at the PTO spline of the tractor? shouldn't it be located at the Mower gear Box? At least that is how my set up is.

thanks, Phil C.

Absolutely. Each slip clutch should be adjusted to a specific implement, thus maximizing both safety and efficiency. Some simply don't realize this, and others think they're saving money by using one common (tractor mounted) slip clutch for all their PTO-driven equipment.

It is attached to the gearbox of the brushog. Interesting that we have both.

As I stated in post # 6 double protection is a good thing, unless you believe posts 5 & 7 :confused2::confused2:. MikeD74t

Wow, after reading what you found, I went back and re-looked at that first pic, I totally missed the nut/stud sticking out the other side. Duh.

It definitely has a shear pin. I took the it out. No splines or no keyway. I guess I am doubly protected.
