The 2 seconds is what I consider an overall time. i try to make my move smoothly.. and take about 1.5 seconds or so to be gein engaging.. and then as soon as the first movement starts, use the other hald second to finish engaging so as to not wear the pto clutch.. In any case.. you have the same 'new' style trans setup that I do. My 1975 5000 has the old style.. no guide.. easer to move.. etc.

Wow you learn something every day thanks alot. I have always shuddered when engaging the pto. Most all of the other tractors Ive driven you used the half clutch method.

double checked the "jensales" manual last night, nothing about feathering,just says to idle down before engaging. But I will give it a try next time I get on the tractor.. Im hoping to use the boat instead this weekend but you never know.

Thanks soundguy, I tried every way I could to feather in the PTO this weekend but it still seems there is no "slipping" it in like with a clutch. Its on or off. I dont know if its the same as on your tractors or not. When the motor is off the pto is free turning, they mention in the book that this is too make hook up easier on ptp splines. When the tractor is running the pto shaft is locked tight. Possibly the pto break is not letting go until all of the feathering space is used up. And to 960: my jet drive boat has a 12" intake grate so it would take a while. but I have been known to shred a trail of sea grass through the flats. but when the grate is clogged you have to dive under the boat to clear it.

I think with more use feathering, your pto clutch will smooth up.

When I first started using mine.. there was no noticeable slip area.. but now I can feel it.

I did some checking, and your independent pto arangement is virtually identical to mine, per the CNH dealer.. As a matter of fact.. most of the late model 8x2 trannies are virtually identical in function..e tc.

Perhaps with more use it will free up some. If yours feels anything like mine.. .. it takes a significant amount of pressure to shift mine... thus making it hard to feather without it jambing all the way over when it finally gives.

Kioti CK30, 30 HP, the PTO is solidly engaged with a lever. Ahead of the HST there is an engine clutch with a pedal. I idle the engine, disengage engine clutch, throw PTO lever to ON, slowly engage the clutch (slowly turing PTO), and then increase RPMS to PTO540. Blades spinning full speed and the HST allows variable speed and direction without clutching or slowing blades.

I love my slip clutch.

Your system works like a 2 stage clutch setup.. in that you can clutch engine and pto by hitting the clutch, or just stop drivetrain momentum by using HST pedals.
