I just got my new post hole digger. I have a question about wheather I can use sy shear pin or are thier special ones for your particular brand. I have a Leinbach PHD. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Usually any grade 2 or grade 5 bolt can be used. The grade will depend on what the manufacturer recommends. You can also use the reduced shaft shear bolts but they are expensive. I have implements that use both grade 2 and grade 5. The real bottom line is to use whatever the manufacturer recommends in the Operators Manual.

Unless you have a misprint like in my Woods snowblower manual calling for a grade 8 (had longgggggg discussions on the subject 2 years ago) on the drive shaft, and that's what came from the factory! Strong enough to stop the motor cold. I run grade 2 now even though Woods actually recommends grade 5, cheap and easy to replace.

Merry Christmas!
