Because I keep the wax right up close to the temp that will deform the turkey baster plastic, I only keep the hot wax in it long enough to do a line of holes. When I finish waxing a line, I push the valve open against the side of the wax pot and squeeze out the remaining hot wax and hang the baster on a fork shaped holder I put next to the pot. That way, I always have the hottest wax possible. I also have a hanger like that for my inoculation tool, drill, and air nozzle (for blowing the drill chips away).
I have the log on two carpeted rails. When it is set and wedged so it won't roll, I do a line of drill holes. Then I fill the line of holes. Then I wax them. Everything involved is within arm's length.
Once I am able to find a stainless steel or glass baster, I will set up my waxing tool hanger to hold the tip of it right in the hot wax.
