Cool....I am in KY, what is the company? I might have seen these before. Yeah, I think they come with like a 25 foot line set correct? What did you do with your extra length? Just leave curled up outside or what? These things are charged perfect for the length of line set you have so you can't cut it, I was just wondering what people did with the extra? People thought I was crazy but I seriously considered putting a .75 (9,000 BTU) in one a deer palace to hunt the early bow season in the AC.

I have a Pioneer from Amazon. I'm sure just a Chinese rebrand. I have had it a little over 2 years. 1.5 ton. My 220 was there already. Mounted on the wall and set the outside unit on the concrete adjacent to the garage. I did have to have a HVAC tech come out and pull a vacuum and make all my connections so I had a little cost...maybe $200. But the DIY is very very appealing. Even if the cost was a tad higher, the option to put these in yourself like you want, when you want is priceless.

The company is Buy Goodman Heat Pump | Geothermal Heat Pumps | Goodman Air Conditioner, they are located in Hickory, KY, just south of Paducah. From what I have read, you mount your condenser so you can use the entire 25' or just coil up the excess. I plan to use one for my shop. I have a Mitsubishi in my house and I was concerned it couldn't keep up during the winter, but it is amazing the warmth it provides. Not your typical heat pump type heat.

You got it right "Tough Luck", these systems are amazing and that company is great to work with. They really understand customer service and are always willing to help someone out figuring out what they need. Great people to work with.

I had seen these systems and never though too much about them, but after I installed the first one I was amazed. Just set the temp and let it work. Can't even hear it run.

I also replaced my house heat pump with a Goodman 3.5 ton package heat pump. Tore out the old system, ran some ductwork in from the unit, wired it, and I was up and running for under $2K.
The quotes I got for replacing my house unit started at $6K and up. Saved $4K by doing a days work myself.

So you replaced your central split system yourself? I had always wondered how difficult that would be if you were not running any new duct work or anything.

I replaced the split system with a package unit heat pump. Everything in one unit outside and then just ran a couple of 18" flex ducts in through the foundation to tie into the existing ductwork. The flex duct and transitions I ordered with the 3.5 ton Heat pump, just had to box in the flex where it went from the unit to the foundation, about 2'.

I used the package unit so that I didn't have to pay for a "licence'd HVAC" tech. All of the quotes I got listed the "Licence'd" tech's labor as being more than I paid for the whole package unit.

I put the unit in a different location from the original compressor to simplify the additional ductwork so I did need to run new power and thermostat wires. All together, less than a days work to change over.

Interesting indeed....my assumption is with the package units you do not have to worry about charging the system and line set removal and install as well as pulling vacuum..... correct? Basically they system comes charged and ready for 220, thermostat wire, and duct work?

My 40' by 60' shop has in floor heat provided by a propane fired boiler. I have no idea what btu it is but it has no problem keeping the place toasty warm. My 24' x 28' garage has a 45,000 btu overhead heater fired by natural gas but I keep it at only 10[sup]o[/sup]C. (50[sup]o[/sup]F).

What propane boiler do you have? I have a pole barn where I will eventually have a 50x60 section heated. I have the insulated slab with pex in it now but still have to insulate walls & ceilings, put inside wall and ceiling steel on and then find a boiler. I was originally thinking a wood boiler but propane may be much less work if the costs aren't outrageous.

Thanks,
Rob

That's pretty much how it works. I had a friend drain the old Freon then I just ripped out the old lines and compressor, evap unit. The new system was fully charged and ready to go from the distributor. Everything in one package, just wire it, hook up the duct work and turn it on.
