On April 10th, it was perfect weather for planting. Only thing, it was about 2 or 3 weeks early at best. I couldn't wait. I fired up the tractor, tilled a half acre, then hooked up the corn planter. With-in a week, the rains came. If I didn't plant when I did, it would have been around June 1st before I could have planted. A few neighbors thought I was loosing my mind. (HA! Fooled them didn't I? I've already lost it! HAHAHAHAHA!)
It's now about 6' tall, tassled, with ears filling out nicely. I've planted Silver Queen and/or Peaches and Cream for the last few years. (Silver Queen this year) We freeze about 5 bushels of ear corn. Looks like I get the last laugh on the neighbors. They're all giving up on corn for the year. Sometimes you just have to go with that "gut feeling".
In all likelyhood, I'll be able to feed the neighbors too. That's ALMOST as much fun as eating it!
