should I buy a new hitch or weight distribution hitch

I bought a F150 almost a year ago and that is one thing I miss about my Chevy. It was a 2500 gasser and had a class V hitch and I didn't need to worry about the WDH stuff.

I could have used the WD today. I picked up a few loads of 2a stone for the drive way and the 1st place I went to the guy loaded it farther forward in the trailer than I would have liked. He was using a HUGE loader with the bucket that's probably wider than my 12' bed and I was only getting 2 ton, lol. This was at a local quarry & construction company and that is pretty much all they use. I could really feel the tongue weight and it pulled like crap. Jerky, bouncy, all over the place. Luckily this is with a dump trailer so I pulled over and lifted the bed and shifted the weight over the axles better and it made a world of difference. But I think it was the first time I ever really felt the effects of too much tongue weight. I'm sure the WD would have helped but I still would have shifted the weight some regardless. I went to my normal place for the 2nd load, which uses a skid steer and controls load placement much better. Even with 500 lbs more it pulled much better. Still want the WD to utilize the trailer capacity and save trips though.

This was the first time I picked up at the quarry and mainly because they are significantly cheaper. BUT, it took at least twice as long to get loaded, service wasn't nearly as good, typical quarry got my truck and trailer all hogged up, and the load sucked. My usual place is only about 1 mile from the quarry and costs more but really is 10x more convenient and easier to deal with. I think I'll continue to pay a little more for the convenience and better service. But I do realize that 99% of what the quarry typically deals with triaxle loads and stuff like mine is probably more of a nuisance to them than they care to deal with.

I ended up with the Equalizer WD. Especially with using it on the dump trailer, it has taken multiple adjustments to get it dialed in and performing as it should, but it definitely works. With a full load and without the WD the front end of my truck only lifted about 1/2", but with WD it keeps it at its normal ride height. The rear still drops some but not as much, but from what I have gathered the front end is the key to weight distribution, which is obviously working. It's not much variance with my truck but I am definitely more comfortable with loading the trailer to its capacity without worries of exceeding my hitch ratings. The system is definitely working as you can clearly hear it creeking and squealing now and then, and it does ride much better with a full load.

On a side note, I do have a 2.5" leveling kit on the front of my 2500HD. It is the torsion bar key style which cranks the torsion bar a little. So whatever that may have to do with all of this is questionable. But everyone that sees my truck thinks the rear is sagging with a trailer hooked up when it really isn't. Typically it would just squat to level with the front, but with the leveling kit it appears to be sagging, but it only drops about an inch.
