You sound like someone that still does oil changes every 3k miles⦠

i have nothing against synthetic oil and i do think itās superior⦠but from what i heard it seems like the early synthetic oil wasnāt great. I have heard many old timer like my grand father bash synthetic oil left and right many people try to explain that the synthetic oil from back in the day is not comparable with what we have today. I heard stories ālike i open the oil pan of that old truck ( it was pack for a few years with synthetic oil ) and their was rust all along the edge of the oil level and none synthetic wouldnāt have done that I never seen that of my life and synthetic oil dosent absorb or mix with water like normal oil dose ā¦.I have heard the stories back in the 70's and 80's about synthetic ruining engines,
I never saw one that it did.
It was bad back in the day, but here we are all these years later, it has too have been fixed and made better.i have nothing against synthetic oil and i do think itās superior⦠but from what i heard it seems like the early synthetic oil wasnāt great. With that being said when i hydro flood a engin like my quad my first two oil change is with regular oil because itās cheeper and because of these stories once my oil stay clean i put synthetic oil back in.
I always tell everyone that turbo can overheat and break down, but nobody seems to believe that...I am pretty sure that when I bought my tractor in 2017 it came with 15W40 dyno. I am up north in Canada. The tractor model that I bought was having turbo issues up here (basically blowing up) because the oil was too thick in the cold. The manufacturer then recommended 10W30 which I am told produced less problems. Regardless, at my first oil change (50hrs) I put in 5W40 synthetic and have not looked back - I have 560hrs now. Back in 2018 (and still today), the dealers mechanic said "good call" on my part!
But it tells you everywhere to use one or the other, not switch back and forth...Depends on the season.
Summer = Dino
Winter = Synthetic
Pro/Cons to both and it will be a never ending story till the cows come home. Followed lots of this on the, Bob Is The Oil Guy. Thus, my conclusion with the above. It answers the ability to be more on the Pro side seasonally.
Also do not use synthetic blended oil in bottles or jugs. It's all marketing HYPE. Does any bottle really tell you the percentage ratio of the blend? Thus, there is no way any of them can be consistent either with the blending. There is no API standard for blended oils like that either.
