Should I wash it ?

That was a photo of a Swedish sno-cat owner, Swedes don't have much use for shaving.

Were all waiting for a photo of the lovely Mrs with pit hair /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And the answer is !!!!!! I went down a disked for about 30 minutes the mud wouldn't let go, the shafts would turn but the mud held on. I came back up and washed it off it wasn't bad I just put the power nossel on and rooted it to the shaft and the water eroded the mud right off. Went back and disked until the soil was pretty fine and then went to the next intended field and found my hunters had put brush all over it so I spent the rest of the day cleaning the field we almost finished before we lost light so hopefully tommorrow I'll get it disked and both fields seeded. The soil seemed about perfect for disking it wasn't sticking to the disk but yet it wasn't a dust storm following the tractor. I really think this is going to work and I think I finally got the hang of my draft control although it does tend to come up a little far when it detects more pressure I'll keep backing off on the valve until it falls back quicker without slamming down. Thanks for everyones comments I guess most of this is just do it and learn from the experience as no one can tell all the variables via e:mail. As a matter of fact one branch of my creek runs through the second field and is still running a lot and I didn't have any trouble getting around at all although you guys talking about popping a disk off are pretty scary I really don't need that sorta luck right now.

Not to worry his discs are safe . There's no soil in Texas, just dirt. You and I are use to mid atlantic sludge. No worries on ruining the cropland either. Dry as it gets down there you could bust the clods up on 100 acres with 2 reams of BB's and a decent air rifle. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

DmansPadge,

What these other folks don't understand is the extent of damage that our sun here in Texas can do to any paint, be it a car or a tractor, without some type of protection. Tractors aren't clearcoated at the factory like Pickups, so waxing it is the next best thing. Not as often as a car, but putting a coat on it ever once in a while never the less.

I just sold my 6 year old Kubota, and people couldn't believe how good it looked. It looked as good as a new one almost because I kept a coat of wax on it and out of the elements when not in use. My taking care of it, all around, paid off big time in resale value too.

It's kind of like other routine maintenance, and just another thing to do along with routine oil changes, air filter checks/changes and so on, if you want to take care of mechanical equipment in our severe conditions here with Texas long summers and the heat and the sun!

Don't know what got into me. I'm never that good. Must have been a few glasses of wine at the time. Anyhow, glad to see you got a chuckle out of it. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Stevenf,
You were lucky. When my disk plugs it usually finds enough vegetable matter to use as reinforcement.

Old farmer trick. Grab a small handful of the soil/dirt. Squeeze it in your hand. If it doesn't crumble easily when you open your hand then it is too wet.
