Here is another shot of the bug in soft stage, working on the tops of some Red Pontiac spuds. Note the flower. Definately can tell these plants are from the nightshade family. Anyhow, if anyone has a remedy to get rid of these guys, let me know. They seem to almost have an imunity to my Sevin (carbaryll). Man can they destroy a potato crop in a hurry.

Cukes anyone? My wife and I love to keep a jar in the fridge with a sweetened vinagar mixture, where we just keep adding sliced cukes and onions. This is a refreshing treat for a summer time meal. I made up a couple of quarts last night. I wasn't sure on the vinagar mixture... (my wife usually does this) so did some experimentation. I am sure she will show me the errors of my ways when she returns from her trip. Anyone else do this?

Bell peppers....how about some peppered steak? This variety turns yellow and is very sweet....that is if you let it grow past the green stage which is hard to do sometimes.

This is sad....these are my seedless grape vines...still in the container. I have had these since March. I can't seem to find time to build the arbor for them. I resolve to start on that today. This variety is Canadice....very strong vine. Yesterday while taking out my trash I came face to face with a huge buck standing at the edge of my yard. He had a perfectly shaped rack in velvet...with large tines. Either 8 or 10. He looked at me while chewing his cud. He was eating grape leaves off of a wild vine in the woods at the edge of my yard. He was probably eying my container grapes!

Ok, I wore out my welcome with boring garden shots. I just like to see stuff grow. Here is my final shot... some Navaho thornless blackberry plants that I started this year. They are supposed to be sweeter than most tame blackberries. I have never grown them...but have a few here for my first yr of planting.

Pete sounds like the potato beetle is not an easy pest to control, here is what I found on the subject. beetle

I have also heard of a few folks heavily mulching around the plants with straw or hay and then brooming the bugs off the plants. Seems they become confused and can't find their way back to the plants in the straw. This brooming needs to be done a couple of times a week to be an effective control.

BTW: Real NICE looking garden...... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Actually, my mother used to prepare them that way .... although she didn't use a jar ...... would just make them up and put them in a bowl for dinner.
