I took a picture of my 8 month-old Rat Terrier last night. Hard to get this ball of fire to settle down to get a nice shot.

I have NO problem getting the Queen B**** to pose. This dog doesn't know she's a dog. She thinks she's a people. She talks to us. Tells us what to do and where to go and what she wants. She tells all the neighbors that they are not welcome in HER yard! Even the ones she has seen a million times..... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

What a great thread! Thanks, Junkman! I have been sitting here reading, LOL and a few tears as well. Thanks to everyone who has given a dog a “second chance”.

I don’t have him under my name, but have considered it many times. Attached is a picture of my best buddy, Weaver. He’s a 7 year old Chocolate Lab that we have had since he was 5 weeks old. We got him from our hometown, his namesake, Weaverville, NC.

Like everyone else, I have 100’s of stories I could tell – this guy, like almost all labs, is a first class HAM and CLOWN!!! He’s around 100 lbs, but, thinks he is still a puppy/lap-dog. I will share this one story of our first Christmas together.

Weaver had free reign and roam downstairs at our old house. We had just got a live Christmas tree, which was in the study downstairs, and it had me a little concerned. He liked to chew on branches and sticks when he would go out to use the bathroom in the woods beside the house. I was worried he may try to chew on the tree, or worse, start tugging on the branches like he would sometimes do and I did not want to see him pulling the tree over. He was 6 months old, but he was big and strong as an Ox. To my relief, he did not pay hardly any attention to the tree. He sniffed it a couple of times and that was about it. I was so relieved.

The next morning after getting the tree up and ready to decorate, I get up, let him out to potty. He comes back in, we both have breakfast and I get in the shower. Usually he would lay in the study while I was taking my shower until I open the door and he would come charging in the bathroom. This morning I open the door and I do not see him. Very unusual. I stick my head out the door to look for him and he’s no where around. I also notice that instead of the nice pine fragrance I had been enjoying all morning, there’s another “smell” as well. It’s coming from the direction on the tree, but, it is definitely not pine and definitely not pleasant. I look, and there under the Christmas tree, my new best buddy had left me my first Christmas gift. Not what I had in mind and brown is not my color. I tried to re-gift it to my wife, but, she said it was especially for me - chocolate from my chocolate.

I wanted to find a turd shaped Christmas ornament for “Weaver’s first Christmas”. My wife was not too fond of that idea. We will never forget that first Christmas…..

Great thread!!!!!!

-Eddie

English lab, she was my wifes before I met her (my wife).

First dog /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And I might add, I had all three dogs in my pic before I decided to put my wife and I in (there are some jokes there, but I won't go there /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Shadow, our second dog. Found here at a vet (we were there with Rose and a woman "dumped her off").

She used to follow us arond endlessly (sp?) thus the name Shadow.

Most needy of the three dogs, but a great watchdog.

Last but not least. The third dog "I found". She was a puppy and found her laying at a gas station in August here in N.C.
95 degree heat and about 15 ticks in her ear.

Shes the "great white hunter" of the three.

She once took off down a hill, brought a bird back in her mouth, dropped the bird after I told her to do so, bird got up and lfew away.

All three dogs play great together.

Around Rose, we thought we would only have one dog, but after having two and then three, really no problem at all.

Got involved with the Humane Society and have found homes for 4 dogs in the last month. Wonderfull feeling.

You would be surprised at the "people" who think dogs are only good for being chained up outside and take no time whatsoever to "work with them".

By the way, have a very laid back Jack Russell Terrier, female three years old if anyone is interested! (just picked her up three days ago).

Never been into the avatars, but what the hey Junkman - we Weim owners need to stick together. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Pictured is my youngest (of two) Weims - Lulu. Also shown in the attached photo with her 8 year old sis Koko, and our "guard dog".

Lulu's just over a year, still in the "dumb puppy" stage, and endless energy. Her confirmed backyard kills consist of several squirrels, one gopher and a possum - all of which she was glad to trot into the house and drop proudly at my feet.

Koko's just starting to mellow, but still plenty of energy. She's by far, the smarter of the two - hopefully the youngster is taking notes.

Hoping to get them both out on the birds this year...just didn't have time last fall.

Here's a closeup of the babies I'm holding. Hardly babies anymore. They grow up way too fast.
