Even straight 30 non-det.. depending on the engine.. and if it has a filter..

Re: Sick of \"what oil do i use \" debates

while reading post above about cast and non-machined gears, if they are not machined they will wear like snot regardless of the lube!, they will how ever break in and eventually run OK with anything that gets between the teeth. as a wear patern developes then it becomes smoother engauged gears. that is unless one gear is hardened more than the other then regardless of what is in there one gear will simply wear out sooner or later...

ANYWAY: I do know a lot about oils lubes and the like. just as I'm aware a diferent oil will make a LOT of difference on high speed applications such as racing and all. our tractors will douptfully EVER se enough RPM to make much differance for the lube... like stated above about the creeper gearing as stated by someone else that when he used gear oil in his tranny on his jinma that the gear lube did not penetrate to the rear half of the creeper gearbox due to the fact that oil has to go through a bearing. it didn't go through his bearing! this menat he was driving without lube (or very little) on some of the gears at all which woudl be better then>?????

in realiaty it is a good thing to try and get the china lube requirements standardized across the forum it would be much nice for all of us and I'm not trying to argue about that fact at all. Just that overkill does not always help the situation...

Re: Sick of \"what oil do i use \" debates

Thanks for the input Greg and Soundguy, I will be getting a manual soon I hope, the mower I have is a 5 foot Homier finish mower with gear box on top like a bush hog. I was told yesterday by a guy at a implement sales co. that they put in 140w gear lube but that 90w would probably be ok. (your comments would be welcome) As for the push mower, I have always used 10w30 in this type of engine and never had any problems with them. (comments welcome here too)

Thanks
Dave

That was me Mark, but the problem was one of viscosity - not of type. My (former) dealer filled my Jinma transmission with straight 140W. When cold, it was way too thick to flow forward through the sleeves. Little or no flow permitted sludge to build up instead. Once I drained out the offending 140W and flushed twice with kerosene, the non-foaming 75W90 I refilled with flowed right where it was supposed to.

Greg:

thanks for replying: I knew there was a problem with it but wasn't sure of the specifics. In this instance you are the master as I never botherd to remove the top form my trans or creeper gear boxs... If I remember soemone had them off with PICTURES was that you too?

Re: Sick of \"what oil do i use \" debates

I'm only just now awaiting delivery of my first digital camera Mark, so pictures definitely didn't come from me. Don't recall even seeing pictures associated with the sludge problem actually. Although being there on my back looking up at it - who needs pictures !!!

Re: Sick of \"what oil do i use \" debates

The pics were from me posted on NYCTO and CTOA. There is a guy that had drained his creeper and had very little lube come out. This scared me as I had changed mine when I put my crate 224 together and had run about 25 hours. The lube must flow from trans to creeper and transfer case thru the bearings. I was nervous and went out and pulled cover with fear of no fluid in creeper. Was relieved to say the least to find full. Some have drilled creeper cover and installed fill/dipstick. I will do also when time permits. I use 85w90 in front diff & transmission/rear diff . Hydraulics are separate which I use AW32. I tried to post a pic but 100K is the limit and my pics are 110K soooooooooo I guess you will have to check CTOA or NYCTO for views.

For a mower like that.. I would just put in whatever they recomended. ( i doubt you would ever find a meaningfull difference in service life between 90 an 140 for that application.. I'm guessin that either would work as well.)

Re: Sick of \"what oil do i use \" debates

Schmalts,,or whatever,,,your sick of it? Now why would that be? Are you an oil engineer or a jinma tractor engineer?Thought not,,,now the reason we have been talking about it over on the chinese web pages is because we don't really know, and have been trying to figure it out,,if you are such an expert, than you don't need to listen to us dummies,,,,now, northern recommends using 30 weight non detergent in trans and front end when average temps are below 50 degrees, and 40 weight when average temps are over 50 degrees,,,I have 40 weight in mine,,,,I use aw 32 for hydro,I have 250 hrs,and have had no problems,,,,,would it hurt to use something else,,,probably not,,,would it help,,,probably not,,,,,you see,,over the internet,we don't know for sure if all these self appointed experts are really experts,so we got to talk about it and than use our brain,,,,and why,[since you were sick of it,didn't you say something over there and let us know how sick of it you were? thingy
