Side Cover anomaly

I purchased a used left side cover for my B6100 ( at a high price ) only to find out that there was no clearance for the oil filter removal.

My original cover ( which is a stretched out mess ) had a factory modification that I plan to convert to this new cover but Im wondering if there was an early production B6100 that had some sort of adapter kit that had the filter originally
outside of the shroud?

I only use Kubota filters but possibly the earlier filters were much smaller? Doubtful that even with a smaller filter a person could have changed the filter without removal of the cover.


EDIT: Not that I expect anyone can help but while I have changed the cover I have also ordered and replaced all the original mounting hardware cause past owners just used whatever they could find and I want things to be correct.

Just above the filter you will see the small hole and directly behind that hole is the belt tensioner, there is supposed to be a bolt that passes thru the cover and threads into that tensioner mounting bracket.

This bolt shows up in no parts books that I have nor dealer. Its as if it does not exist. One can see the hole in the diagrams but no corresponding bolt?

Any thoughts?

Pretty sure that the side panel needs to be removed when doing maintenance work.

It's a common deal on tractors to remove the side panels to work on it. They usually just make the dipstick accessible without removing the panels.

Some will just clip in place, others use wing nuts for ease of removal, etc.

The original side cover I show gives someone plenty of access to remove filter. I may have a pict somewhere of it mounted onto the tractor if needed

Yeah, I was checking some pictures and I did found two styles of side panel.

One has the large half moon shape with plenty of room to take the filter out, unless it's using a larger filter which I also noticed.

The other is like yours with the mesh right in the way of the filter.

If you need to save 5 minutes time removing the side panel every 200 hours, use an oxy-acetylene torch and cut the panel around the filter. Leave enough space for your gloved hands. To save even more time don't remove the side panel during cutting. Spray paint with red oxide primer when still hot for that baked enamel paint finish. Cover sharp edges with duct tape. Done!

It would be simple enough to add that cutout trim--Even if it was held on with small screws. Find someone that does "real" auto body work to make it. Most times, we're called "metal shapers".

Or I could cut out the old and use my resistance welder to re attach.

Maybe the bolt for the tensioner is just a tool that is remover after its adjusted....:confused3:

Too bad there isnt a database of tractor owners, Id like to find some other B6100 owners. It really a neat old tractor and I find myself using it much more than my larger one. The only thing it lacks is 4wd

Does a B7000 count for that? Had one for 18+ years.

It only counts if you can describe to me the hardware that goes in the empty hole in the side cover just above my oil filter. Runs into the belt tensioner gizmo.

Oh that'll be an hard one to figure out. :laughing:

Mine had the 2 Cylinder Z650 engine so totally different setup in that area and no side panels.

I was checking some pictures of the B6100 and the parts books. The parts book it's not very clear and does indicate that the bolt to tension the belt was located there.

I saw one picture that had a support bar bolted there to the vertical exhaust.

On a ad for a local B6100 for sale, I saw what it looks to be a short pin coming through the hole with a washer and a split lock pin through the hole.

Yes thanks everyone, I did see that tractor on e-bay and blew the pict up to see the bolt head. I appreciate the efforts
