Sidewinder SX50

I bought an old Kubota B8200 last week and the guy threw in a very poor looking brush cutter with the deal.

It's a Sidewinder SX50 by FMC. I took it cuz, well who knows... Some times you can find something useful. It looked like the only real issue was the output shaft from the gear box was frozen. The box came off easier than I expected so I started to have hope for it. BUT, when I tore apart the box a big part of the flange holding it together broke off. And it looks like there's probably no real hope for the output shaft anyway.

So... What I'm getting to is wondering if there are any parts out there. My first look around the web turned up blades and such, but no major parts. Is there a chance of putting a box from another make on it? It's just a 90 degree box. Can't be such a rare thing.

I'd post a pic of the thing, but I know what y'all will say... "Toss it and start over!"

5 years ago i had the phone number of the co that bought sidewinder: at that time they offered me a new gearbox for a 6ft cutter, for under $400: i wish i had taken them upon it now, because they make really tough equipment: if i can locate their number i will post it, but i am really kinda doubting i can find it.

sidewinder was bought out in 98, by a company in missouri. their toll free number is 800-343-5825; they still make a lot of rotary cutters.
