I can't see why that wouldn't work.

sent a PM but just in case - how many cans of the paint was needed for the two boxes and how many coats? any prepping to know about? Thanks!

less than a can, sprayed until it looked ok.

Prep? They were new cans so I just wiped them clean and painted them.

Don't be too fussy. Remember you're going to throw chains in them.

Re: Simple and handy .50 Caliber?

Pilgrim,

I had considered .30 ammo boxes as well. I have tried to find one long box to use so I can carry a few more tools, etc. I will let everyone know if I find one. I admire how you mounted yours.

Were the ammo cans .50 BMG's?

mine are 30 cal. 50 cal would be way to wide to put behind the seat, unless maybe you were really short and could move the seat all the way forward.

Tool Box Choices for Max28 XL, Mahindra Factory Paint Quaility.

The Max28 seems to have less room behind the seat than the Max28. two .50Cal BMG boxes would fit if elevated a few inches, but pose problems with seat travel and the box hitting the back of the seat.

Feel free to vote on the little red USA made, but low quality STACK ON brand low profile 15" long tool box vs. the single .50Cal BMG box.
Note the weird hole drilling locations i had to do on the Aluminum mounting plate due to the haphazard loctation of the factory monting studs. Maybe there is areason thet are nor symetrical? i wonder if those studs have something to do with the BH seat?

Both boxes will be mounted on rubber washers , the Ammo Box is gasketed water tight.

The disadvantage is that it limits seat rear travel a n inch and even so the seat back will touch the can. Being only 11 long, limits the size of what will fit, but its deep, so soda cans etc. would fit.

The tool box will rust and is not water tight by any means.

Speaking of rust, the Mahindra enamel paint is a single coat without primer. See the support for the slow vehicle symbol.

I reshaped the bracket just a bit to better fit the tool box. Factory paint peeled off really easy once cracked. I'll grit blast it a work and paint it so the paint stays on.

Note also I reshaped the top link holding bracket, It is made of sort of mild spring steel, and not real easy to bend. I did this to give ample clearance for my weight box design. This way both the factory std top link and the weight box top length can be kept on the tractor,

from what I've seen of 'commercial' type boxes like the red one you have, they wouldn't stand up well to dropping chains in them. I think the ammo can you show would be more suitable.

1 vote for the ammo can...painted of course.

well i received the 2 ammo cans in last night. checked it out today in the rain and they will not work the way old pilgrim has it on my max 25 - but i can do one centered. I also figured out and will do it this way - is to mount it on the inside of the rops setup to the base of the fender frame scene. sorry no pics yet. there is a hole drilled on the tractor area already so no drilling or integrity loss to the frame components. so i can have 2 cans on the inside base of the rops setup - 1 on each side and the boxes facing front to back. I can put a long bolt - only one though for each box and have to build it up due to the gap between the bottom of the box and the hole in the frame - but i can also maybe add a zip tie or 2 from the side of the box around the rops frame with a couple of holes drilled into the side of the box just for added stability. Should work nicely and look nice too - kind of like inside saddle bags.
