Siphon gas

I have a 2007 GMC Sierra with a full tank of gas, and a portable generator that needs some of that gas. Is there an easy way to siphon a few gallons from the truck without screwing anything up and without crawling underneath?

You've got the trusty piece of old garden hose if it'll fit past flapper. There's also the cheap hand pump or squeeze ball siphon. I assume you're in the middle of nowhere or you'd just take a can to gas station? I sure wouldn't be taking any lines loose. Most are under pressure anyway. You'll just have to get some kind of 6' long hose down in there far enough to hit gas. To siphon, container will need to be on ground.

I tried to siphon some gas out of my '99 F-250 and could not get even a 3/4 O.D. inch PVC thru some kind of restriction in the neck. Never tried again.

Yes, most modern vehicles have several anti-siphon strategies in the filler neck. The manufacture has made if difficult by design to siphon gas.

That's what i figured. I tried putting a 3/8 plastic line down it, but it wouldn't go very far so i just gave up. I guess i will go to Northern tool sometime soon and get a 15 gallon can like this one and plenty of stabilizer.

Probably your best bet, some of those videos used the fuel pump to pump fuel with a bypassed fuel relay, or there was that one kit to get by the one way ball valve thingy, but overall siphoning gas is a thing of the past. At least doing it easily is pretty much a thing of the past.

My service van is a 1985 with 34 gallon tank and no fuel injection.

For the last 25+ years I have been fueling all my small equipment from the van tank... added a T valve common to those with old style aux fuel tanks... a quarter turn of the valve and fuel flows through a 3/8 spring hose with a shut off... no more spills...

that's what i was hoping for. To tee off the line with an extra hose to the gas can and just turn the key. But it sounds like the car manufactures are looking after me and making it hard for the thiefs to steel my gas.

Well, that and also when you have a wreck so the fuel pump does not keep pumping gas out on the fire, and even prevent gas from running out of the fuel neck if the car overturns.. A lot of thought has been put into safety and anti-theft. But it sure was nice in the old days to go out to your car and get a gallon of gas for the mower without having to drive all the way into town... but no more.

I siphon gas from my 04' Ford box truck all of the time. When the price of gas drops I fill the truck which sits alot. Being prices fluctuate 25-30 cents around me all of the time, when it's high and I need mower gas or perhaps a few gallions to get the car to the cheapest place, I siphon.

I have a piece of clear tubing about 1/2 inch or so OD. Sometimes it goes in easy, sometimes it hangs up and I need to keep turning and prodding it until it goes in. If the tank if full, I just blow in the tube and drop it down and the gas flows. If not, I blow then suck. The trick is to watch the gas coming through the tube and quickly placing it into the jug before it gets in your mouth. Not a good thing, lol!

I learned that the hard way. I tried to siphone gas out of a Honda Fit a few years back. That nasty little Japanese car wouldn't let me have a drop!

Well,, as a young man, I siphoned gas out of our station wagon............but forgot that it was going..........gas ran all over the garage floor.....

I was lucky that I didn't have a serious accident. But here I am, alive and well. Young fellas sure make some stupid mistakes. Now, if I can just live thru old codger stupid mistakes, I can still post on TBN.:laughing:

A former friend used to use parked school buses as his gas station when he was a cash starved teen driving old jelopies. I guess they used to run on gasoline. Eventually he was found out and charged.
