MDM,

Hey thats a good idea with the used engine oil. I think i'll start doing that too. Thanks.

Does your gearbox make the "whining" noise at low rpms like mine does? Does your "oil FILL plug" have a breather/vent on top of it? As you've read above, mine doesn't. BOTH fill/check plugs are solid. It is definitely building up pressure inside. Especially in the Very little time (about 40 min) I have ran it.

Once I start using it this Spring/Summer, then and only then will I be able to possibly recommend one to somebody else. As it stands now, I can't do that.

I sure hope I get good service out of mine. Its going to be the primary attachment behind my tractor. Time will tell.

I'm gonna make a call to the dealer again.

You definitely need a breather plug or you will eventually blow out your seal.

Just to clarify what I said earlier, what I was saying is that the heavier brands will withstand more abuse whereas the lower end mowers won't. Any mower will tear up if you don't properly service it but some brands are built heavier and therefore are more forgiving.

You can also contact Sitrex directly via email at info@sitrex.com

Thanks Red River. You have been helpful.

I don't know if I should contact the dealer or contact Sitrex. I think I'm gonna go ahead and send an e-mail to Sitrex anyway. Thanks for the address.

I haven't sent Sitrex an e-mail yet.

I took the plug to the dealer (same place I bought my 'new' Yanmar from) last Saturday. The mechanic said that plug wasn't correct and are gonna contact Sitrex about it Monday, which was yesterday. He said that I definitely needed one that that had a vent on it, which I already knew. I haven't heard anything yesterday or today, which is Tuesday.

My new $1200 mower is outside with a rag stuck down in the oil fill hole.

The way things have been going since I got my tractor and mower(since the first day I had them), AND leaking Bush Hog seal (all within 2 weeks for all 3 problems), this looks like its gonna be one **** of a grass cutting season. I'm not laughing either....

Travis, let me know if I can be of anymore help to you! I don't always check this board so you might want to send me a PM.

Business has really been picking up lately due to the warm weather so I probably won't be able to check back here as often as I do now.

I called the dealer today about the vent plug in the gearbox- Said that he did talk to Sitrex. They told him that they have been selling these mowers for years and that no vent plug is needed. All the gearboxes come with solid bolts for the oil fill/check holes.

I think someone is terribly wrong here. I dis-agree with them. I'm gonna somehow try to find a plug with a vent on top. If I don't, I know that its gonna eventually blow out a seal.

Remember, I already took the oil level check plug out one time. That was after about only 45 minutes of run time too and it had a noticible amount of air that blew out of the whole.

WHERE CAN I GET A VENT PLUG AT?

Travis, I've got my implement manufacturer checking on it to see if they can get me one.
