The left -rear wheel spindle or "fork" was bent when the dealer loaded it and the tractor up on my trailer (2-10-07).

Travis R

Are you saying that the dealer bent the spindle when he loaded or it was already bent at the time of loading? Either way, you did not bend it and should not be responsible for paying shipping. Tell him that you will be glad to box it up and take it to the post office and send it just as soon as he sends you enough to cover the postage. From a dealer perspective it is the right thing to do. If he wants Sitrex to cover this part he will fork out the money because a new spindle probably costs more than $19. Also on the hole size, the fact that they are different sizes doesn't mean anything other than Sitrex is probably getting there spindles from another supplier or multiple suppliers. When I bought my JD4310 tractor I was looking at two 4310s sitting side by side and notice part differences on a certain part of the tractor. It just means that the manufacturer found a better or less expensive way to do the same thing. Don't worry about the Sitrex mower. They are good quality mowers and I will probably be getting a 6 footer when I get home from Iraq.

Travis, just an update. I've checked with our implement supplier and they contacted Sitrex and asked about this. According to Sitrex, as long as you don't overfill the gearbox it will be fine. I know the few that we have sold DID have breather plugs in them, we might have had some spare ones lying around our shop that we replaced them with but I honestly can't remember because it's been almost 2 years ago.

My advice would be to find another brand mower that has the same threads and just use one of their breather plugs. I know I wouldn't feel comfortable operating it without a breather plug either regardless of what Sitrex says.

Best of luck to you and let me know if I can help in any other way.

Thanks Brent and Red River.

The spindle problem is taken care of now. I brought the bent one back when I had to take my Yanmar back to get worked on the first time. We were not sure if the dealer bent it when he was loading it on my trailer or if it was bent before he loaded it.

As for the breather plug, I went to a Farm Pro tractor dealer (Gordon Murril- Welcome to Action Equipment) that is about 4 miles from my house. I've said it here on TBN before and I'll say it again: Very, Very good feller. He does business the way everyone should do it.
Anyway, he gave me a plastic breather plug that fits in the Farm Pro finish mowers. The plug was a little too small but I just wrapped it up with teflon tape to 'beef' it up a little. It seems to work fine, but I am still in search for the correct plug that goes in the gearbox.

Red River,

I really appreciate all the help you have given me.

how do you change belts on a 6 ft. sitrex mower

You probably want to start a new thread on that. Short version, remove the top covers, loosen the gearbox retaining bolts, take slack out by loosening the adjustment bolt on the gearbox plate..then you can pull the belts right off. Reverse for installation, and re-tension them after the first coupe of hours mowing. You can find the Sitrex manuals online, or look up Rhino XM600 finish mower...same machine as yours.

Lots of info in this thread:

I know this is a pretty old thread but I was wondering if the whinning from the gearbox was ever addressed on your Sitrex Finsh Mower? I bought this same finish mower a little while ago and noticed that it whines pretty loud. I immedeately checked the oil in the gear box and it's full and then greased all the grease fittings and it still whines. Also, did you ever find a breather plug that fit? There was def pressure in my gearbox when I removed the side fill level bolt on the gear box.
