Size of drain line to septic tank

I just bought two American Standard toilets called the Challenger series. They are pricey at $350 each, but WOW, you should see them flush. Everything is gone from the bowl almost instantly!! It's very, very fast and it's all gone. One flush, that's it. hahaha

They don't have a flapper, but a tube down the middle of the tank and a valve that slides around the tube. When you flush, the valves lifts and very little water comes out. The water level in the tank barely drops. I can't tell you how much water is used per flush, but compared to a standard toilet with a flapper, I'd say about a third just guessing.

And not to get on my soap box, but ever since toilets went to the 1.6 gallon standard per flush, have you noticed it takes at least two flushes to empty the bowl, sometimes three? Another environmental disaster that wastes more water because of their meddling.

Sorry for my enthusiasm, but I've tried more toilets and modifications to them to get a decent flush than I can count, so when I find one that actually works, I'm a happy camper.

I have three of them in the house I built 2 years ago. No problems, everything goes down first time.

I don't generally like environmentalists, especially their meddeling, but had they not caused the low flow requirement do you think that Eddie's super low consumption toilet would have ever been invented? I think that many of us would still be making 5 gallon flushes today.

Keoke, Hit a plumbing supply store, they'll have a number of adjustable flappers. One model has a dial adjustment and another is a simple float on the chain, lower it for a longer flush, raise it for less water. The new low flush units don't work well in older houses with long runs to the septic, and they are really picky about the pitch on the pipe.

I have 2 young boys, when we moved into the new house they were constantly plugging the toilet in their bathroom, or they'd need multiple flushes. I jacked up the flush and the problems went away.

yep there are man6y low flush units that are low useability too /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif on some there are a small hole which weeps the air out and makes the flapper fall into the tank drain hole faster a small bit of silicone in the hole will cause it to stay floating untill the water level drops finishing of all the water in the tank. there are some that use a tube type how to fix these I'm not sure as I haven't tried one yet. I know mansfield plumbing have Presure Fluse units that work really well but are a bit more noisy than a traditional gravity flush unit... I imigine other major manufactures have something similar?

anyhow hope that helps.

When I built my house last year, we installed TOTO toilets on the recommendation of my plumber and the local supply house. They are UNBELIVABLE! The way they have it designed is the key to good flushing. They also use standard parts for easy repairs.

They were only about $150.00 each at the supply house for the basis style w/elongated bowls.

Do a google search on "Toto Toilets", you will see lots of reviews about them.
