I asked my lady friend about her heater just to be sure. She said it floated on top of the water. She has a plastic water tank, but she said they even had a insulating cover to put on the heating element so it would not touch the sides of a metal tank. I'm sure she got her's at the TSC in Decatur. If they don't have them, maybe they are out of stock.
My guess is that in this area, block heaters are used so infrequently that auto parts stores may not stock them. You might have to mail-order one if you want to try one. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
