Skid shoes on a scrape blade

I do the same thing in regards to running the blade backwards so the curve is in the direction of travel. I have thought about going with the pipe on the cutting edge but I find that even though I normally plow backwards, I occasionally have to pull the blade and allow the cutting edge to dislodge ice and thick packed sections of crusty snow.

If I had the pipe over the edge there are many sections where the blade would simply ride up and skim over the hard packed snow.
