new holland tc40da
Let me start with a big thank you to tbn and all y'all for your help in making my new tractor purchase. i just bought an NH tc40da with the quick tach system and am looking to outfit it with a couple of additional toys...tools, i mean.

first a new grapple rake, i'm leaning towards the Piranha 60" grapple rake found at pirahnaattachments.com. Any feed back on this product or others similar to it would be appreciated.

Second, i'm considering buying a boomer hydra swing (mini backhoe) from lackenderfabrications.com. Would this work for my tractor? the owner of the company has said it will, although they have yet to install one on a tractor. I think this would be perfect for my light digging needs, but i'm hesitant to make the purchase. what are your thoughts?

Finally...a how to. Both of these attachments require a hose running to a hyrdr. remote, i'm assuming that means my rear remote (i did get one), from the end of the loaders arms. Whats the best way to rig my tractor so that i don't need to run all that hose each time i use the attachment? or is running the hose each time the best way to go? those of you that use ssa's that require attaching to a hydro remote, how did you deal with this issue?

i'm new to all this, so any help is really appreciated
thanks again, TBN rocks!

Brian,

I have the 60 inch Piranha grapple...works well and seems to be built tough...the only consideration is it weight 685 pounds, don't know the capacity of your FEL...I had to upgrade to the L723 on my Kubota to be able to lift it with any amount of load!!

I ran 12 foot hoses under the floorboards and hose clamped to the FEL arms to run the grapple...not to bad, just be sure to keep an eye on them in case a clamp breaks or a limb pulls slack in them...don't want to be dragging them on the ground...

Have bought the multiplier valve to put on the Joystick/FEL and hard plumb into the hydraulics...just haven't had time to install yet /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Hope this helps

I expect the backhoe will work on your machine, but I think you may be disappointed. It will add quite a bit of length and weight to your front end and a tractor is no where near as maneuverable as a Skid Steer. A tractor also is much longer. I went to the web site you gave and it didn't work so I searched for the backhoe and found http://www.lackender-fab.com The info on the backhoe is somewhat unclear as far as swing goes. It talks about an adjustable pivot? I don't understand what this is? Does it have a conventional swing control or do you have to manually reposition it. Using a fixed swing backhoe on a Skid Steer is possible. I would not enjoy using one on a tractor at all.
Also, your vision of what the backhoe is doing will be severely limited on a tractor. I would suggest you look into a subframe mounted rear backhoe before you make this purchase.

I to think you will be disappointed with the hoe up front.
Just because you can hookup the attachment does not mean it will be useful.
With a hoe you will be exerting a lot of force on the loader arms.

I have a much larger loader (32LA) and the local bobcat dealer (who also sells tractors) has warned me about using a bobcat hydraulic hammer with it. He feels the extra torque caused by having the hammer that far forward will increase the probability you tear up the machine.
