Interesting video. Those look like eucalyptus trees. Since so many were
hollow, it looks like the loggers bound the trees up with rope, possibly to keep
them from splitting before they fell.

Eucalyptus trees are really a danger here in CA. They are non-native with
no natural enemies, so they often grow over 100 ft tall and 12-ft in diameter.
They break and fall with no warning. If I had any on my 19 acres, I would
have cut them long ago. They are also extreme fire hazards. These trees
were imported to the West coast 150 y ago with the idea that they could
be used to make RR ties. Didn't work out.

Hey there, is that in santa cruz mts? Do you know of any one with a mill? I have a tree down and limbed, A live oak with a 40ft straight section that I have a hard time just cutting or bucking up for firewood. seems it'd be more valuable as a beam, or two. it is about the same as that one only 38" really heavy. I got it flat across the road limbing it down. it hung up on a steel post which i put a c clamp on and turrned it eith an extension pipe till it buckeled. pretty scary stuff. my phone fell in the creeek and lost the photos.

That's a big tree, and heavier than DF, you bet.

I know a guy with a tow-behind bandsaw mill, but I don't really see the
economics working out for just one log, and a heavy one at that. He has
to get paid, and you will also need a way to lift/load into the mill. Tractor!

The big DF tree in this thread is now gone. It was removed the hard
way by a neighbor who cut/split it for firewood. Since he only has a small
chainsaw, he cut as deep as he could, then split off chunks with
hammer and wedge. It took about 6 months.
