Yup, this concoction works, our dog was full on blasted in the face two weeks ago and this worked. I suddenly had to go get a chainsaw part so I didn't get to watch my wife do the dirty job. Darn.
Skunk Odor Removal - How to Get Rid of Skunk Smell
Here is the secret recipe that WORKS. Mix the following:
1 quart 3 percent hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
1 teaspoon liquid soap or dish detergent
Mix these together and bathe ("shampoo" in or rub down) the spray victim thoroughly.
Be sure to use this mixture immediately after it is created, as it is unstable.
Let sit for five minutes and rinse with tap water afterward, and repeat if necessary.
Our old dog got sprayed and we used the above recipe and it worked. Except for about 6 weeks we would get an occasional "whiff" when he got wet. And I must have got something in the sinus cavity because every once and awhile that smell appeared. We were lucky in that we knew he got sprayed and could take care of it outside. A woman I worked with was not so fortunate. A dog will try to rub that oil musk off on anything handy...like the sofa, the carpeting...The one time my dog got sprayed - so strong it smelled sweet - I washed him with Dawn dish soap. Once a day for three days. By the third day he was wise to this and it was a real battle but both of us got a good bath. I don't know if it was because I smelled from wrestling with the dog or the Dawn did the trick but at the end of the third day he was allowed in the house. I darn near wasn't.
I think I would have caught them up and had them de-odorized if they wanted to continue living there. I think lots of folks use de-odored skunks as house pets similar to a cat in habits. When I moved out to the country 28 years ago I had a few skunks living in the work shop pole barn no doors type of thing. I could see there tails sticking out from under the work bench and they snore .I was so supersized the air compressor and the radio did not run them off or worse. Every morning I would push the tails back under out of sight with a jack handle so I did not step on them. With time they would come out and beg for some of my dinner, there is a fine line between beg and bully after awhile. Then they had babies, never thought a few bites of a sandwich could lead to so much fun. When I would have company in the shop and the skunks would come out to beg I would wispier to my company (do not move and maybe they will not see you, do not try to run) I would wait till they almost passed out and then I would feed the skunks in the far end of the building. Everybody has seen them and do not care anymore. If I lay down in the yard, more there level in height they will come up to me for attention and of coarse food . About the only time I have any spraying is in the spring when they breed, other then that no problems. They do have a Oder like a burnt electric motor when they are right up on you.View attachment 483816View attachment 483817 No I do not have a dog.
