Set the post on top of a few inches of drain rock. Pour concrete around the post. When the wood and concrete have shrunk, simply fill your caulking gun with a solvent based "roofing tar" type caulking. These can be found with a silicone base which will allow for expansion, and help prevent moisture from penetrating.
