Slip clutch vs shear pin for bush hog

Iv never seen a telephone pole that was that small so just went out and measured 5. The tiniest I could find was 9" at ground level - others ranging up to 12". These are seasoned poles - all wood - and are sunk 5' into the ground. These dont compare with green trees. A tree is not as inherently stiff, and also has less wood because AFAIK bark is included in tree dia. Also, the root ball is shallow and will tip.

No 8" pole will stop anything but [maybe] a Smart car dead in its tracks from 50. A 4000lb car will chop a 5 foot section right out of an 10+" pole at that speed leaving the rest of the pole sitting on the dashboard held upright by the wires. Happened in front of my house where I used to live.

Try convincing someone else.
I'm not a believer of the 6-8" trees..

I think it's feasible, seeing what I do lol

I call BS on the 8" trees. I wouldn't even cut them with my brush cutter.

Now I will eat 8" trees for breakfast lunch and dinner along with a midnight snack with my Turbo Saw.

Some people cant be told the truth.

Your brush cutter is hydraulically driven and thus limited by relief pressure to an anemic power level compared to peak power available during deceleration of a directly geared 50 HP power train.

Also, as set up that brush cutter is stessed to bend the tree, whereas in my case the tree is pre bent from a pressure point well above ground before the bushog touches it.

You may have cut ONE 8" tree, but I bet it quit after that

I cut several 8"-- not oaks because that large of an oak would not bend enuf. Beyond 8" nothing would bend enuf. The bushog did not break. I cut hundreds of trees in the 3 to 5" range while working on the overgrown 20 acre parcel.

I push them down with the FEL then drive over them, isn't that the same thing as SPYDERLYNK is doing?

The brush hog will just chop right through the stressed highly bent wood at the base of the tree. I don't chop the whole tree up at this point, just detach it from the ground.

Then lift the BH and slide down the tree to the tops then lower it again.

not a big deal I dunno why people are getting all riled up about this.

Maybe its because your not going to bend and drive over an 8" tree with a 45 HP tractor.

I'm just very careful who I call a liar because I don't know everything there is to know.

Only God does.
