Hello from a newbe
/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifI've been looking for a 60" toothbar. After reading about them on this forum I decided I wanted one with slotted mounting brackets so that I could loosen the bolts and slide the toothbar forward and pivot it up when back dragging. The only one I knew about with slots was W.R.Long. Since I couldn't find a dealer in my area, I called W.R. Long direct to work something out, he turned me on to Carver. During our conversation I asked if the reason for the slotted mounting brackets was to pivot the toothbar. The answer was no, the reason for the slots was to have the bolt holes drilled at the back of the slots so as the cutting edge of the bucket wore down you could move the toothbar back. I think the person I spoke with was the owner. Has anyone actually mounted a W.R. Long TB style toothbar with the bolts at the front of the slots and been able to pivot it around ? If the Long Toothbar won't work, can anyone suggest another manufacturer. I don't think the wearing down of the bucket edge is something I need to worry about.
Thanks John

The slots on the WR Long toothbar are not long enough to release the toothbar from the buckets cutting edge to flip up.

I have a 60" WR Long tooth bar on my B2910 bucket. A home owner is not likely to wear the bucket edge out. But my dealer gave me a 60" bucket that belonged to a landscaper. It's the same bucket as one that came with tractor. Cutting edge is worn back to where it is welded to bucket. I use this bucket for my grapple. so cutting edge is not important.
Tomorrow I will give a look at my tooth bar and bucket to see if could be flipped up if bolt hole is move to front of slot.

I can loosen the 2 bolts and pull the WR Long toothbar all the way forward, flip it back and lay it the bucket. I have been told before that you can't, but I certainly can with mine. Yes I've tried it. My holes are drilled in the bucket all the way to the front of the slot.

edit.....DK35 Vince, I would suposse that if your bucket edge is thinner than mine and the edge fits in the toothbar further than mine does, then I can see where the slots would not be long enough to accomplish this task.

I have an ATI and the dealer for them told me to drill in back of the slot for wear too and I did it their way I didnt think about fliping it till I had used it for 6 monthsand read about on fourum. I am considering a second set of holes to make it flip but havent looked to see how much meet will be left beween holes.

Hi Ron
I wonder if the FEL on your 2910 is the same as on my B3030 (LA403)

Hi Inspector 507
Looking at your installation pictures, it seems as if the cutting edge of your bucket is thicker or more blunt than mine. BTW nice prep. and install. of the toothbar.

Buckets are the same except for mounting brackets to FEL arms. 403 spacing is about 3" narrower than 402.

The Markham toothbar doesn't come with a slot in the mounting tab, so I slotted the tab and mounted the bar with the bolt in the front of the slot so I could flip the bar over into the bucket for back dragging. I had to trim the bottom corner of the tab to allow clerance for it to clear the bottom of the bucket as I flipped it over, works for me.

I looked at my bar yesterday. Looks like it will allow the bar to be flipped up. My bucket is already drilled for the holes to rear of bucket. So it's hard to tell exactly. Jerry's pictures show the install very well.

Hi Milkman
I thought about getting a Markham toothbar and doing what you did if it was possible and the price is right if a person only wants 6 teeth on a 60" bar. All the other manufacturers have 7 teeth. Markham will put on additional teeth for $24.00 each. For me the price would be only $11.00 less than A W.R. Long which already has the slots and 7 teeth. Wow listen to me I'm writing like I'm a toothbar expert. I've never owned or used a toothbar so I really don't know if having 6 or 7 teeth is an issue.

Thanks for looking Ron
For the price and the possibility of using it as I described if I decided to, the W.R. Long toothbar seems to be the way to go. I didn't mention quality because I haven't read anything bad about any toothbars.
/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifCan you tell me how the teeth are held on to the shanks. I 've heard the phrases pinned which I assume means a roll pin through the shank and tooth, but how is a tooth crimped to a shank ?

A tooth is driven unto shank until roll pin hole lines up. Attached is a closeup of a tooth bar tooth.

The cutting edge sticks out a bit farther than the bucket edge, maybe by 3/8" or so. It measures about 11/16-3/4" total, measuring both..
