The gauges in my VW porsche powered bus, and my porsche 914-6 tell the truth. Both engines are air cooled, and have oil coolers. Both engines run cooler with mobil 1 15-50. Also both engines hold 10psi more oil pressure over the regular dino oils the M1 replaced when hot. Oil temp in the VW bus pulling mountains would go to 250F sometimes. Never goes over 210F now. End of story for me. Everything gets it after break in. Cheap insurance, and the oil handles the higher tempertures. If you want to see some real results, pull the intake manifolds of like mileage VW TDIs. One with sythetic, other with dino. Observe the thickness of the coke layer on the intake runners.

I have 3 different "smaller" gasoline engines here at home..and was told ( and didnt belive it) that running MULTI WEIGHT oil in them would increase oil CONSUMPTION....and in 2 Kohler's and 1 B&S...its a FACT. STRAIGHT 30W in them runs fine..very , very low consumption. I switch to 10W-30...and oil consumption triples! But...if ya check the oil all the time...its no big deal. Not like 30W uses a ounce per hours and multi weight ues a allon or anything.

I riun 10-40W in my Onan on my 1995 Ingersoll 4020 PS garden Tractor. Does not use any oil.

Never tried 30W, but why bother?

Yes and in two previous motorhomes tha had Onan gensets in them..I ran 10W-30 in those and never had any sort of problems. Im just repeating what I was told...and experienced..in small gasoline powered impliments with B&S and Kohler engines. BTW..I DO use 10W-30 oil in them... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Trying to find straight 30W is a royal PITA.

I broke in a Miller Trailblazer 251NT (20HP Onan--1999 model) with dino oil and changed over to Amsoil 15/40 syn at about 25 hours. No problems. Welding engines start cold at full throttle so I thought the added insurance of syth. is a plus. BobG in VA
