The 45 Colt's history goes back to 1873. Co-introduced in 1873 with Colt's Single Action Army revolver, this along with the 45-70 is perhaps one of the most successful centerfire chamberings dating from the first years of self contained cartridges.

The 45 ACP also mentioned in this thread was adopted by the US Ordinance Department in 1911, six years after its introduction by John M. Browning. Like the 45 Colt's popularity and long following in revolvers the 45 ACP is one of the all time favorites in automatic pistols.

Dieselpower finally got it right on the origins of the .45 Colt.

I thank you for your closing and admitting that the the .45 will barely break the skin of an elk at 100 yards. It's not from any amount of knowledge on my part, but just plain common sence and experience.
I admit no such thing. Maybe I wasn't sufficiently clear in what I said, so I'll restate it: The .45 Colt will DEFINITELY break the skin of an elk at 100 yards.

What did I finally get right? Umm, might you have the wrong person with that quote? I never wrote that. If you go back one page I think you will find that's Eddie's quote, not mine. :)

YIPPY!!! We're making progress. We both agree that the 45 can break the skin of an elk at 100 yards.

I'm not sure wether to be disapointed that you could only find this one thing to agree with me on, or happy that you didn't continue pretending that a 45 has a better chance of penetrating an elk than a 223.

Oh well, it's always fun to play these little word games, but if you're not gonna offer anything to support your postion, then theres nothing else to say.

Regards,
Eddie

I'm beginning to think that discussions about guns and shooting need to be handled the same way as discussions about politics and religion. It's another subject that folks will never be able to agree on and the conversation always deteriorates to insults and bad feelings.

Eddie, your reading comprehension is so low that it is pointless to continue.

Dieselpower, that quote was taken from Eddie's post, not yours.

Ok, maybe I misunderstood your statement. But I'm still a little confused. You wrote "Dieselpower finally got it right on the origins of the .45 Colt." What did I have wrong about the origins of the 45 Colt before? I think the only thing I said about it's origins previously was that there is no such thing as a 45 Long Colt. There is no "Long" Colt because there was never a "Short" Colt. Did I say something else about it's origins that my fast fading memory has forgotten?

In any case. It's all in fun anyway. This thread is starting to turn into a "Will it fly" thread, only it should be called "Will it penetrate" thread. :D

O.K. That's enough. Two attacks were launched and they both hit the ground at the same time.

Thread closed.
