Anybody have luck with this kind of set up?. Our road is about a mile long and getting rough.

I've done the back dragging with the fel and used our back blade. It works to certain degree.

A few spots I gotta haul gravel in. Old railbed so the ground is solid.

Boy, a mile long I would at least have a land plane. My drive is only 200 feet so the DR grader would probably be enough for a yearly dressing.

Tractor time with time has a good videos on them. There is another guy from another channel that appears with him that apparently is the “grader” guru

York (the York Rake Company) has a series of rakes with drop down blades.

I have a 7 footer. Works OK if the road has enough moisture.

It is hard for me to believe a ground contact implement weighing 168 pounds, with some weight supported on two tires rather than ripping the road, will accomplish much.

This thing does NOT have a integral rear blade to pull material. It is just a light scarifier, which will bounce.

Greetings from SW MI

New here. My name is Joel and lived in SW MI for about 10 years now. We have a little bobcat 324 mini and a Massey Ferguson 1705 over glorified lawn mower.

Consider a Land Plane or Landscape Rake towed by your truck.

Tractor capability is more closely correlated to tractor weight than any other single (1) specification.

The larger wheels and tires on heavier COMPACT category tractors provide more tractive power pulling ground contact implements and logs, pushing a loader bucket into dirt and pushing snow. Larger wheels and tires permit heavier tractors to bridge holes, ruts and tree debris yielding higher operating speed with less implement and operator perturbation.

It is impossible to make worthwhile implement recommendations without knowing your current tractor brand and model.

1. Click on your "illuminated" screen name in upper right corner.

2. Click on SETTINGS in drop down box.

3. On left side of screen, click on ACCOUNT DETAILS.

4. Scroll down to TRACTOR.

Consider a 880 pound to 2,600 pound Land Plane towed by your truck.

Consider a 400 pound Landscape Rake towed behind your truck.

Now you can make your SUV or Pick Up even more veratile by equipping it with a York Rake. Maintaining that long gravel driveway or camp road just got a whole lot easier. Simply attach the rake to your SUV or Pick Up via the 2" receiver hitch, attach one end of the control box to the electric/hydraulic cylinder, the other to a 12 volt power source and start raking. Unit is 8' wide and weighs 400lbs.

I made a set of gauge wheels for my blade and added wings on the side to keep the spoil from making humps exiting the sides of the blade. Now that I have a hydraulic top link fine grade control and keeping my driveway smooth is easy peasy.

Why does a mile long need a land plane?

This weights 168lbs. That's a lawn mower attachment not a subcompact attachment. I would look into something with more weight. It's also basicly a box blade on wheels. Dont you have a 3pt hitch?

The wheeled box blade would be worth looking into. I have seen some with tilt and with enough weight to do some work.

3 point attachments tend to follow the pot holes and bumps and get transferred to the tool attached to the tractor.

I didn't say "NEED", I said I would at least have a land plane....as a bare minimum. Depending how much traffic and condition of said road, a dedicated grader attachment like GEE RAY has suggested would be nice to have.

I missed that part. Geez that thing does look nearly useless.
It being so light and only have that thin blade I could see it making things worse.

What type of implement that will work best is directly related to the material and structure of the roadbed and surface topping...
A roadbed made from glacial till and packed down and top coated with gravel is much different than a roadbed made from graduated sized material...

This is why I asked. Alot of knowledge on here. Don't want to spend a grand if it won't work.

Was looking for something to tow behind sxs so it's "free floating" if you will. Like what was mentioned, 3 point just follows the tractor

Weight is key here to cut, gather and deposit a hard packed dirt (gravel) road. Simply moving around the loose gravel is a very short term solution. Depending on the condition, looking for a local guy with a road grader and having him dress up the ditches and re establish the crown could serve you well for quite a few years. 👍

That’s the channel I couldn’t remember the name of.

My neighbor has an actual road grader that's been sitting forever. He finally got it going and after about 30 minutes of use, he blew out alot of hydraulics for the belly blade. He had someone quote him $1200 for repairs. I should go in halves if I can use it.

We made us an adjustable box grader and bought a hydraulic top link. It will dig into the hardest gravel parking lot in mid summer. You know how the older you get, the harder you are to impress? I was using the grader on maiden voyage, and I was impressed. I figure it will carry 2 1/2 yards of dirt. Gravel road, it just smooths and gravel goes over the blades. I used it on many different ground types, can't say anything negative about it.
