I am looking for a 2000lb or so trailer+cargo. I am still working on getting a truck so for now I need a small trailer for the car that I can haul bulky items. 5'x10' seems to be the largest possible and about 1k, 500 ish for 4'x6' does that sound about right to you guys? any brands to stay away from etc?

Find out what class the hitch on your 'car' is before you get a trailer... your vehicles hitch and GVRW will be what mandates the largest trailer you can haul.. etc.

I built a 5x7 ft with tube sides about 18" high and removable rear to tow behind my wives 4 cyl wrangler its been fine I did put 3500 lb running gear
under it.

I put ply wood and dry wall on it on top of sides with 3 of 2x4 or 2x6 across sides to keep them from bowing in center.

how much do you think it cost you to build it? Im just looking for somthing cheep that will survive moderatly light duty. Once i get the farm bringing in a pay check ill be able to get a truck & 10k trailer so that i can haul the big loads but till then im just looking for this to be a odds and ends hauler.

hehe or till i get around to fixin that old decrepid hay cart so i can loader up and annoy all the tourists along the way :D

You might be able to find a cheap used snowmobile trailer in the off season, most of them do tilt,if you want to load a mower. Only thing bad on some of them is the tongue splits where the mounting bolt is at the swivel. I have a open Remeq [ haul my atv's or riding lawn tractor]besides my enclosed triton,it has the wide tires. Old pop up campers can be stripped for utility use. plowking

Years ago I could build these trailers from scrap and sell them ,But in the last few years, Ive found that you can buy them from Home Depot etc way less money.
I broke down and bought one, and its OK. but a bit bumpy riding when empty. One thing to look for is a fill shackle system some will have the real shackle just in a slide pocket of some sort this ads to the noises .
I have 7 trailers now, and the best one is from an older camper trailer, I stripped it down, and put on sides and a PT deck, IT is the smoothest riding trailer I ever had, and a good capacity.
So next to starting from scratch maybe look around for that old trailer and strip it down , that was work, but well worth it.
Oh yes id recommend at least a 12 inch wheel..
