( I did only think the warranty was two years )

Murph, I am attaching a copy of the New Holland Warranty for all tractors and agricultural equipment. When I bought my tractor, this document was explained to me in detail by my dealer. We went over every point and limitation. At the bottom of the document there is a block for reassignment of the warranty and then the signature blocks at the bottom. My dealer wanted me to understand every detail of the warranty, but it may just be that everyone doesn't get as good a job of explaining things as my dealer did for me.

Here is where to look and what to look for:
Under "Basic Warranty, Product," notice the second and third lines are for Compact Tractors. The basic warranty is 24 months/2000 hr, but there is a sub-paragraph only for Compacts that is an "extended powertrain warranty" for a period of 12 months. That is the engine, transmission, main drive axles and auxiliary drive axle. Therefore the total warranty time on your powertrain is 36 months. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Is that cool or what? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif TCs have the best warranty of all New Holland tractors. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So Murph, I just wanted to post this so not only you, but everyone who has a question can see the actual documentation and not just "oral history."

Would it make you happy to find out you actually have even more years of warranty on just your engine? Would 5 years and 3000 hours get your interest? Well, just read my next post and see if it doesn't give you a warm feeling for the ol' EPA. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Seriously! I think you are gonna be surprised. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

So what did the "stinking government" ever do for me? /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
What possible good could come out of the EPA? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Check out the attachment. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif It's page 0-1 from my TC Operator's Manual. Have you read that part of your book, or did you just skip right over it? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

My engine is guaranteed to meet EPA emission standards for a period of 5 years. This warranty covers fuel injection pump, fuel injectors, intake manifold, and exhaust manifold. Paragraph three is my favorite. I almost have it memorized. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif ...just kidding. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

"Any emission control system parts which are proven defective during normal use will be repaired or replaced during the warranty period. The warranty repairs and service will be performed by any authorized New Holland dealer at the dealer's place of business, with no charge for parts or labor (including diagnosis) ."

They even provide an address to write and phone number to call if you think the warranty is not being administered properly.

So what is the emission standard? Well, that's not as easy to find. If might be in my Repair Manual, I'll check. Notice at the bottom of the page the Class III engines are called out: N843L, N844, and N844L. Surely, all other classes have the same warranty, but probably have slightly different standards.

So if your tractor coughs, spits, sputters, smokes, and generally makes you miserable, it may not be meeting EPA emission standards. If so, you have a warranty to protect you and you should use it.

I hope I have been helpful to everyone on this issue. We pay good prices for our tractors and we should expect them to work well. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Jim, I just find it interesting that these engines require any preheat in the summer or at least in warmer temperatures. I'm pretty sure mine only functions when the ambient temperature trips it. Interesting to is that there is no smoke on startup. My only thoughts are faulty injectors that "pop" to early and or a bad spray pattern or a glow plug that simply is not working. Even one bad glow plug on my 7.3 truck will cause problems. They, like the NH both apparently require a little preheat to get things going.

This may be a little thread drift, but sould someone explain to me how the TC35, 40, 45 can start instantly?

My TC29 needed 8-10 sec of glo plug warming. The TC35 starts as quick as I can bump the key, even in 40F weather. I know it doesn't have time for a glo plug to heat up, so how does it start so quick? What sort of technology enables the instant starting?

The biggest diffrence in these diesel engines is.. One with out glow plugs but have maybe a intake heater is direct injected . Meaning the fuel is sprayed by the injector directly into the cylinder . Easier starts and almost instant.. I filmed my 1979 Ford 2600 3 cylinder direct injected no smoke no miss firing . The other type like as in some of the pickups and tractors is what they call Indirect injection Meaning their is a precombustion chamber before the cylinder , Thus glow plugs to heat this chamber up and the fuel hits their to burn b4 going to cylinder . But if everything is working the way it is supposed to both style should light off pretty fast .

Since my TC-40D is garaged in a pole barn I only use the glow-plugs in the winter, I go straight to start in the summer. Other than that, the starting procedure is always the same. Start slightly above idle, I get a puff of black smoke when the engine first fires. I then go to 1500 RPM to warm the engine. It is and always has been smooth and smoke free since I got it. I'm very happy with it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I wouldn't be a bit surprised, if the pump timing was retarded. With EPA the way it is, retarding the pump would help with the pollutants. It might very well, be a stop gap measure. I am sure that NH is not the only company that has concerned it.

( With EPA the way it is, retarding the pump would help with the pollutants. ) That just goes to show ya how dumb these super scientist at the EPA really are , Ya go retarding the injection timming the piston has by passed TDC the temp's are falling the fuel charge is late getting burnt . Which leads to un burned fuel up the stack , Smoke everywhere misfiring of the engine , Raw fuel washing the lub oil off the cylinder ,, Yea retarded timming really helps Like heck it does /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Mike, my TC45D will also fire instantly almost anytime I go directly to start (I think it's the quick-cycle glow plugs, Have_Blue.). I had a problem with blowing my 7 amp fuse when I went straight to start. If I let the glow plug cycle go for the few seconds until the light turns off, I never blow the fuse. If I start instantly, probably 1 out of 100 starts I'll pop the fuse. So I just force myself to wait since my tractor doesn't have the circuit breaker modification. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Anyhow, I'd sure like to hear from one of our technical experts, TechinNY or RickB, about their take on this rough running problem. Maybe they know some inside information that I'm not aware of. I'm just so happy that my tractor runs perfectly as soon as it fires. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Since I'm the one who asked about whether the glo plugs were always used, I'll post an additional comment. On both my 2120 and TN75, you need to manually turn on the glo plugs (2120) or intake preheat (TN). The vast majority of the time the engines start almost immediately without these aids.
