Anyone out there have a solution for the deflector on kubota snowblowers?

The dealer wants $500-600 for an electric one...ridiculous!

If anybody has pictures of their setups it would be welcome before the white stuff starts flying.

Thanks

Just to clarify... You want to do the chute deflector NOT the chute rotator correct?

If so, I would suggest a electric linear actuator, like THIS from the Surplus Center. They also have 6" stroke ones for a little more...

Just to clarify...yes only deflect! I have hydraulic chute rotation.

Thanks

Any one else have any other ideas. This one suggestion could work very well for very little $$

One idea that could work-

The old big satellite dishes actually used a linear actuator (DC-24volts) that could be shortened to do just that chore.

I have been hoarding one just for that purpose, but just haven't got around to doing it. (on the 'things to do list')

Anything DC 24 will work on 12 volts, (just a bit slower and less torque) and who needs a fast action on a snow shute deflection anyway.
The deflection action is not a high torque requirement. (rotation is, as often there is ice jamming the works).

In fact I suspect that a heavy duty 'choke cable' could actually be adapted the snow shute deflection with the proper lever action.
They use that principle on many small walk behind blowers.
Such a HD bowden (choke) cable is what they use for remote control of hydraulic valves.
The trucking industry offers them is up to 16ft lengths to engage PTO's hydraulics on dump trucks and at a very reasonable price.(like in the $20. range).

Never even heard of the "big dish" 24v system. Will look it up on ebay.

I was thinking of something manual like a walk behind unit. Electric or hydraulic would be better...how bout a diverter valve to a small hydraulic cylinder??

how bout a diverter valve to a small hydraulic cylinder??

That would work just fine-it's all about what you want to pay for the convenience...I expect by the time you bought the cylinder, diverter, hoses and fittings you'd be spending about $300 to go that route.

I can offer you to this link.

I myself went with all electric. used a windshied wiper motor to rotate mine on the chute i use and old bed linear actuator , and hooked a auto heater blower motor to it to run. Its allot about how handy you can be and the time invested.
I'm not sure what type blower you have but mine , I was able to remove the fixed rod that held it, and bolt the actuator onto it and it fit fine
I have seen some very good adaptations in here,So take a look at what others have done.
One idea I'm not sure has been explored is a cable run for the deflecter,I don't think Ive seen that method used but seems it could be adapted, if you can find a long run on enclosed cable similar to bike brake cable.
I am convinced that it is all about money. they want to sell the hydraulics, and there simply isn't a lot of power needed to do the job.
Good luck possibly post a pic so we all can help.

I a locking control cable similar to a PTO control cable. I got mine from the John Deere dealer. It fit the blower that went on there 485 model. If you are intrested I have the part number and probably the reciept from back in 2003. I live in northern Maine where we get "just a tad amount of snow, close to 200" last year" and this set up has never come lose while blowing and takes less then 5 minutes to hook up at the beginning of the season. I just installed this on my Kubota. It was part of the deal when I purchased the tractor a few weeks ago. It was an easy install because my tractor came with two rear remotes. You could easly get all the stuff you need to maske it up at Princess Auto.
