I recently bought a snowblower that needs work. It痴 an Astron 80 dual auger. (Old and heavy). The slide coupling connecting the gearbox to auger drive shaft is worn out and broken. It痴 a 19 spline on one end and round shaft with shear pin hole on the other.

I am having a hard time finding anything similar. Not even a 19 spline coupling that i can have bored out on one end. Does any one know of a source for this coupling?

What is the outside dia of the splined end....and the dia of machined out end?

I'd try cleaning it up and welding a short piece of Sch 40 black pipe over it and re-drilling for the shear pin. If there isn't a size of pipe that fits well. slice a piece out of a larger and collapse it to fit, or cut a relief in a smaller one.

I had an inspiration and found out the Astron blower was made in Elmira Ontario.

There are a number of blower companies that have come and gone from that area.

Smyth Welding is one presently there and in their product line is a 1-1/4" 19 spline coupling.

Great. Ill give them a call. I was just on the phone with them last week asking about their blowers and they said there US rep would contact me........

Th local smyth dealer told me to call smyth. Smyth said to call a dealer.

Turns out Lucknow also sells them. They said i can pick one up at the factory or call a dealer but they cant mail it. Ill double check the size with them before ordering.

I found a 1-1/4 inch 19 spline to 1-1/4 inch shaft/shear pin coupling. This blower is 1-1/4 spline to 1-3/8 shaft.
My solution at this point is to order the 1-1/4 inch coupling and have the round shaft end bored out to 1-3/8”

A shear pin at the coupling location is most unusual.

What is present on the small sprocket area driving the auger(s).

At the other end of the shaft I am working on is a small sprocket that drives the auger chain. It has 3 bolt holes connecting the sprocket carrier to the shaft. They would work as shear bolts, if they break the sprocket will turn freely on the shaft. I am not planning on using them as shear bolts as it would be a very inconvenient place to install new bolts when packed with snow.
