Snow plow adapted to the FEL

Funny how nature is a mother of an inventor. Over the summer, I saw a 7.5' Western blade and A-frame outside of my buddies shop. You all know how the conversation goes from here....
"What are you gonna do with that?"
"Nuttin. Won't fit on my current truck."
"What do you want for it?"
Thankfully, his wife was close by and yelled "Get it out of here. I'm sick of looking at it."

After explaining my idea, his only words were "I'll help you load it in the truck".
Few months later, I've finally got a few minutes to work on it. Skid steer plate ordered. Tractor has dual remotes. I've already pulled apart and cleaned up the cylinders. Let the fab work begin!!!! LOL Some grainy pictures will follow. The poor picture quality will be to disguise some craftsmanship issues.....not because of a cheap camera. LOL

I gotta quit praising Paul, or readers will begin wonder about me... but his little recurring statement "...Excellence is not a skill. It is an attitude.." really doesn't say it all- not only does his work show quality attitude, but excellence in its execution.

Count me in as a Paul fan!

OK guys what do you want
I do appreciate your kind remarks. Thanks

Well i am going to say that i have the same idea as well. While mine is not as polished as others that have been posted i just got mine finished tonight. I still have a couple more items i want to add.

First i started off with just the two sides of an ssqa plate. These were cnc plasma cut and cnc bent. I picked them up for 50 bucks. Thought that was a really good price. I went to my favorite steel place and picked up a piece of 2inch wide 1/2 thick flat bar about 6 foot long for 14 dollars. Gotta love drop pieces of steel.

When i got home i went to laying out where the flat bar had to be cut and welded to form the top lip of the ssqa plate. Lots of time was spent adjusting clamps and tapping things with a hammer and checking the plates with a level. I got the top cross member welded in, and was really happy. I am not an experienced welder, i have only welded a few times. How ever, i was happy with how i was doing. Was getting better as i went.

I wanted this ssqa plate to do more then just mount my snow plow. So i put a receiver hitch on the top for moving trailers and other things. I also wanted to add some forged rings to the plates, for pulling logs fence posts what ever i want. I still need to get two weld on chain hooks for the top of the receiver hitch.

I had a friend pick me up some tabs to make my plow mounts. The holes were cut to large, how ever i found that a piece of 3/4 pipe would fit perfectly. Also the pins on the plow were 3/4od. I cut and beveled the pipe to make it easy for the pins to go though.

After some work to get the correct fittings for the cylinders i now have a completed project. I managed to save the lines from the truck to attach to the skid loader.

Now for what you have all been waiting for, the pictures and videos.

Nice work Paul. (as always).
And your tractor is always spotless. Looks good.
I adapted a 9' Western truck plow to QA for my tractor last year.
It works very well.

OK. Here's what I've got. Not my best fab work ever...but I think it'll get the job done. I'll have about $300 :licking:in it by the time the hoses are all done etc. Right now, it's a 7.5' blade....and my garage door is also 7.5'. Unless someone tells me that 33 hp of compact tractor will push that no problem and that I'd be an idiot for doing it....I think that the blade is going to lose 6' off of each side. It'll still be a hair wider than the tractor at full angle.....so that'll happen over the holiday.

The blue paint? It's what I had laying around. Been on the shelf for 9 years. Was time to use it. LOL Not my most proud piece of fab work....but sometimes form doesn't hold a candle to function. 006.jpg007.jpg008.jpg:laughing:

I'd think you could push that no problem at all. The best thing to do it try it, you can always cut some off later if it's a problem. Angle the blade a little to make it easier to get in and out of the garage.
