Snow Plow, How Big?

.........................and maybe lights on a stick.

I played around with lighting on a total of 5 different tractors over the years and the only setup that has worked on more than one tractor has been worklights mounted high on the cab. Factory headlights haven't worked well any time I had something mounted out in front of the tractor.

There are a couple of threads on here about making an under slung mount for a front plow on a loader frame it shortens up the package nicely and takes a lot of the bounce out of the plow setup.
I have a SSQA plow and it sticks out a long ways in front of the tractor,
I believe I would have been happier with an under slung truck plow setup.
about a 9ft V would be nice.

Yes, what I have sort of. Does the job but one nasty set of storms a few years ago got me to thinking there has to be a better way.

Got a set of Ghetto Blaster LED's on the Ford, just under the overhead cover, gonna do that again. A smaller set for the rear as well.

As any of us that use a loader in darken conditions can tell you, lights in the tractor grille are much less than functional with raising the loader arms.
Many of us (self included) have tried mounting lights on the loader in some manner with disappointing results. These work well (LEDS) while the bucket is low working, but if wishing to dump a bucket load in a trailer, well you get well lit tree branches.
Just a bit of word pictures to encourage you to put your lights higher (ROPS or cab mounted) and use multi sets or spots and floods to give good work area coverage.
Fender mounted seem to do ok toward the rear as you lift height is much less to see around, but if possible higher mounting works well there also.

Well, slow as all get out but finally decided and ordered.
Tried to order earlier but out of stock, locally $1,000 more.
Also tried to buy one to fabricate, no luck getting what I wanted.

Looks good from the photos. The blade is also nice and close to the ssqa attachment point, which is a plus.
Be sure to post a review after some use!

Super price. I've seen 72" manual plows go for that.

We didn't get squat this year. Some Winters are really mild, some are more like the real thing and occasionally we get hammered. The last tractor had a rear blower that was fun, but really slow. That was the reason behind going with a blade. It is easier to use and much faster than the blower. I do a couple parking lots at our church, and the front blade has been the best snow removal tool so far. The tractor has plenty of grunt and the grooved tires give it traction. We had a few light snows this past Winter, and I used it without anything on the 3PH. It did OK, but a counterweight is on the list before next Winter.

Post 652 below is from the Winter 2018/2019 and at that time the L4240 was carrying the rear blower that was really for the L3200 we sold earlier this year. Early in the season I snapped a shear pin on the blower. It only takes about two minutes to replace the pin, but the blade worked so well I didn't replace the pin and just kept the blower on for rear ballast.

We have been pretty dry this winter in NM and AZ. Snow in the mountains, but not much elsewhere. We had a 5” snow around New Years, and got another 5” last night. Still snowing but I doubt we’re going to get a big dump.

Wish I was in AZ about now, not in the beautiful mountains either, down in the flats with the illegals, scorpions, tarantulas and gila monsters.

Received the plow, still on the pickup, in the shipping frame, looks good..
Hoses were crushed, called Titan Attachments, parts are on the way.
Actually, might just use the quick release ends and fab up hoses, 3rd function is in the rear. long hoses.
Need to check hydraulic fluid level.
Still undecided on the counterweight. Counter Weight for Snow Plow
Will post pic(s) when it is together and a follow up on how it works.

Some old preacher in the 18th century, begging to be brought back to Massamachusetts said about Maine that it was a 'God forsaken land of God forsaken people.'
I love it until it gets too cold.
Just trying to get the plow right, 7.5 to 8', not too heavy a setup but not lightweight either. Hydraulics and maybe lights on a stick.
I've worked in a bunch of states, and a couple extra countries too. I have often got the response: Maine? isn't it too cold in the winter? I always tell them: If it wasn't for the cold, we would never get you out-of-staters to leave after Labor Day, but now Covid hits and they're even staying here throught the cold :(
