Helping a friend transfer a Myer snow plow hitch and wiring harness from his '05 to '06 Chevy 2500HD Duramax. I have the hitch and harness off the '05. Waiting for the '06 to get back from having the bed liner sprayed.

The trucks have the factory snow plow prep package. I know some of that package contents but wonder if it offers anything to make installing the plow wiring harness easier? I saw on a GMC web site that there should be a plugged hole in the firewall to route the harness into the cab. The owner has had this Myer plow and wiring harness for a number of trucks. He trades each year. I was wondering if Myer might have a newer harness that might take advantage of some wiring feature of the snow plow prep package? Looked at the Myer web site but it didn't talk much about it's wiring kits.

I don't know if the 06 wiring is different from the 05. But I do know it's different than an 02. I also have swapped my Western plow from truck to truck and had to buy a different harness when I switched from 02 to 05 since GM changed the headlight wiring. If you havent already, check with Meyers to see if the 05 / 06 harness is the same. I only have to feed the joystick wiring through the large rubber boot in the firewall into the cab. Everything else is under the hood on mine. They are usually not user friendly if you have to route cables / mechanical linkage etc. through the firewall. The 06 firewall is supposed to have an access grommet according to the upfitter bulletin mentioned in the previous post. The plow Mfgs. should have a ready made harness that will plug into existing wiring under the hood.

Thanks for all the good information. I don't think I will have any issues putting the Myer plow harness on the '06. I just didn't know if there might be a newer harness that simplfied things.

There are two small boxes that mounted in front of the grille. Might have relays in them. Much of the light harness terminates there. You need to unplug each headlight and plug the Myer harness in there. Another part of the Myer harness then went back out to the headlights. A wire from the Myer hardness went out to the truck turn signals. A wire slice tap was used here. This harness also had a wire going back to a toggle switch to manually control the plow headlights. Might have been added as most kits now auto off the truck lights and enable the plow lights once the plow is mounted.
