Snow Pole Road Markers ????

I always plowed my own mile-long drive and never needed markers because I know it so well. But twice we've had these monster snows - for Virginia - and I had to hire a plow. It was a not-good experience and damaged the road a bunch. Now it's marked. I bought cheap pvc-like 1/2 inch pipe on sale and cut it to 6 foot lengths. Went to Big Lots and bought a few rolls of reflective red tape and wrapped around the top of each marker. I use an old T-bar to punch a hole in the ground and stick in the pipe. Works like a charm and is done quickly. I put them 18 inches to the right of the edge of the gravel and have never had one knocked down or broken by plowing.

While I'm on the other side of the river, we've got to be pretty close to each other. Agree N.H. and Vt. are very different states!


One of my sisters lives in Corinth, pretty country but quite a drive to anywhere...probably 1 1/2 hr drive to WRJ. Rt. 302 can be "interesting" in bad weather. A section of it going towards Wells River washed out in Hurricane Irene (it's been repaired), westbound towards Barre it's known to flood. You're also in a bit of a snow belt, you'll get 2-3X the snow there than even a few miles away. Lots of old, semi-overgrown farms in the area that can be had for a decent price.

Nah, WRJ is under an hour easy, Burlington is even under 1.5 hrs, and the Barre section of 302 only floods over in cases of Irene type storms.......but you are spot on for the snow! Between Groton and Orange we can get absolutely dumped on, and I love it!

Yeah, it took us about 45 minutes to get from Corinth to WRJ...not a bad ride at all except for one road. It had a street sign(!!!), but was nothing more then a logging road. I thought I was going to highcenter my F-150 4x4 a few places.
I'm not too worried about the snow. I have a 35 HP tractor with chains and I get out early enough to plow (I'd rather do it in smaller bites then a once time job after the snow).
My wife was raised in Plainfield VT, so she has a good idea of what to expect. So do I, actually. No doubt, the first year is going to be tough but we'll hack it.

Unfortunately you are correct. That is, except the North East Kingdom. We still have a good deal of independent individualism here and don't fit in well with the rest of the state. Also with a small population don't have much say in Montpelier.

And I'm very surprised how free VT's gun laws are (or have they changed?)

Nope......still have arguably the best gun laws in the country, basically none!

the problem with VT is the people in Burlington outnumber the "normal" (i.e. non SUPER liberal) so their votes count. VT gets a bad rap from those cities and people, but beleive me, the Corinth and Topsham areas are NOTHING like the liberal "urban" areas of VT......with the NEK being even better in that regard!

VT may be considered liberal by many, but it certainly is not oppressive or a nanny state like CA, NJ, MA, etc......it's like Vegas where anything goes!
