I think there are shoes on it. They may just be cut off in the picture.

I said: "I don't like the shoe-less plow mount. I think the frame will dig into the pavement."

You know....the big black thingie the snowplow mounts to on the tractor?

You need to read more carefully.

I have never seen shoes on a mount. Thanks for clarifying that. ;)

If you guys are talking about mine I did make provisions for shoes but do not have them on it now. When I made the mount I welded 2 pieces of tubing the appropriate diameter and about 4" long on the ends of the lower cross tube to accept them. You can see them in this picture along with the hitch tube I put on also. Have to admit I stole both ideas from others setups like Builders.

Is that an old Myers plow?

Stick with me chief, I can teach you a lot. ;)
You let the whole "ford versus chevy" thing ruin your opinion of others.

retrofitting your tractor FEL arms with a used or free (best price right?) truck plow seems to be the way to go. I did mine over the summer as well. I didn't want a blower right now due to high winds here all the time when it snows. With a plow mounted on the FEL arms , you can still move snow up high. Got snow that piled up and needs to be moved back?, then swap plow for bucket by pulling the pins. Nice and simple. At least it is for me.

Yes, got it off CL for $80 and rebuilt it this year. Used it last year as is. Here is a link to the steps and cost associated with the rebuild.

Chris

Thanks for the link. I thought it looked familiar. I have one that I bought new back in 81 or 82. I used it on my Toyota Landcruiser to plow my parent's driveway. You see, I had to shovel it by hand from the time I was about 8 into my 20's and it was quite long. After high school I had several jobs while living at home and paying my way through college. Since I had some extra cash, I bought the plow to make some side money and get my home chores done faster. I still remember the feeling I got the first time I used it and had the driveway done in two passes. 5 minutes with the plow VS an hour with a shovel. Zip zip and done! :) After I moved out, my dad bought a snow blower. I asked him why he waited so long to get the snowblower and why he didn't get one sooner. He said he had one... his son! :D

I still have the plow and all the mounts, lift, wiring harness, etc... although it has just been sitting on my property since the mid 90's. Not sure what I'll do with it. We don't get nearly the snow amounts now that we did back then.

My current tractor has a quick attach built on to the FEL arms. The plow that I bought with it mounts to the quick attach. I think it only sticks out maybe one foot past the quick attach plate. Also it has gauge wheels. There is no way for it to tip back far enough for anything but the wheels to touch the ground. Looking at your use of the existing plow mounts and cylinders, I can now see why you might want feet or wheels near the rear of the mount to prevent it from hitting the plowed surface.

Here's a ink to a video of my plow tilting all the way forward and backwards. You can see how none of the quick attach can hit the ground.

And here's another of the power angle. They accomplish angle with one double action cylinder behind the plow parallel to the plow face, not the two single action cylinders that the pickup truck type plows use.

Here's a closer look at that cylinder.

One thing it doesn't have is a trip over mechanism like yours. So, when I hit an immovable object, the plow doesn't trip over. It stops the tractor and that can cause damage. Although, the tractor is so light all it has ever done so far is cause a jolt to the operator. :p

I thought I could teach you a lot:D:D

I have no issue with you really. We are both hard headed and we both think we have the best. Only make sence. I would not buy something that was not best for my needs working in my budget, and you would not do the same.

I give credit where its due so I have no issue saying I took your ideas if they are good. That is what these sites are for, to share info.

Doubt it, it may be a Meyer plow though. ;)
Hey, at least it started with M and sounded similar! :) I get real happy when I can remember what I had for breakfast by lunch time, let alone the name of something I bought 25 years ago. :D

I have most of the toys the others have and all these ideas work well, it all depends on you. What you can do, what you can afford, how you want to work it. That being said, here's what I have done and/ or am using.
1.loader and 7' rear blade, good in light stuff, wet stuff too heavy for my CK20HST,will push it sideways but fast for big areas.
2. loader and 5' 3pt blower, the 20 will handle that blower full speed in reverse until I get into wet stuff over 12" deep, then just back off HST.
3. recently acquired 7' Meyers truck plow, will probably mount that to the floor of the bucket for this year, then when theres time make up frame like Diamond Pilot. I figure the loader mounted plow is the way to go because I have a lot of tight spots and need to stack frequently with loader if its not safe to blow.

Now about selling the old Allis', (my opinion) what are you nuts? they don't make them like taht anymore. I still use my 1961 Allis B-1( that my parents bought new), a Simplicity 1010 (that I'm restoring), a case 444 with 48 blower for tight spots and sidewalks, and a Zero turn for mowing. Contrary to my wife ,a man can never have TOO many tractors.
Hope I helped!

Thanks Joe

On the Allis forum the guys have been giving me heck! :D

Too many options for man-toys, so little time......

i'll help your choice. Don't think about the lawn tractor blower attachment for the long run. They DO work, and I used one in North Dakota for about 8 years.
Overall, Difficult to install. Needs chains on the tires and extra weights, and often those were not enough on sidewalks.
Worked well in the dry snow, and very well for getting the "frozen" drifts and the deep snow, but there were times I wish I had a walk behind too.
As long as you have a "real" tractor, keep the lawn tractor for the lawn.

I was cleaning up in the barn yesterday (OK for about 2 weeks really as it was such a mess) and guess what I found.....

I have a Crafstman snowblower that fits on a lawn tractor. It's practically new and I bought it years ago at an auction. I had forgotten all about it.

I'm going to investigate whether or not I can put a motor on it and mount it on the front of my ATV.

Ahhh, a project and one that is free to boot!;)
