Snow Tires by Massey Ferguson?

I agree that they looked interesting. Dealer told me that they were $3,000 for the tires and then I would have to buy AG rims, also. Seemed real pricey to me! Dealer said that AGCO brought 10 sets into the states to test the market and they sold out immediately. He also said lead time would be very long. Apparently, people are buying them.

That is not a bad price if that was for all 4 tires;
18.4x30's are $500-$900 each
460/85 R30's are $500- $1100 each
11.2x24's are $150-$350 each
28/85R24's are $200-$400 each
So every where's from $1400 to $3000 and more for a set of radials in those sizes.

The dealer said price was for all fours. I don't know if it is a good price for radials or not? I don't run radials now and don't see the need for what I do. Plus, I would have to buy AG rims, additional expense. Just seemed like a lot of money versus standard R4 or Turfs that I've run. Even the dealer and two reps. that I talked to thought they were pricey. They were narrow. But, they looked interested for plowing on asphalt, which I do a lot. I don't know how they would be in mud or dirt?

I was looking for the ply number. They couldn't tell me how many ply they were, either. We couldn't find it printed on the tires anywhere.

My biggest concern with these tires was the lead time. Having in the past cut a tire working in the woods and in a field, I would like the ability to get a tire and get back to work. Dealer told me it would be a lengthy wait! Maybe, that will improve in the future if a lot of people buy them.

Just give me my Firestone - 6 ply - R-1's. They don't have to prove anything and work just fine all the time. That tire - R14 - is going to become an expensive slick in the mud and snow. If that's what you want - have at it.

I agree, the R1 has been around for a long time, there is a reason they still put them on tractors that aren't meant to be driven on the lawn.. The R 14, it looks kinda like a rock crawler tire you see on a Jeep..

There is no perfect tire. That is, one that will work best for all applications.

"Yous pays yous money and takes yous chances"

I can see this tire performing extremely well for some people. And very poorly for others.

If you think R1s are "best", did you consider R2s? If not, why not?

Never heard of r2's.. I dislike my r4's I'll tell you that..

Googled them, look pretty gnarly, I bet they would dig you a hole pretty quick..

Used to refer to R2's as rice and cane tires, good in deep mud.
They didn't wear good with road work while loaded or hauling,
they were also rough on hay fields.

In my area Nokian tires have gained a decent reputation.
Seems they use a softer compound like in quality winter tires that grab on ice.
Similar to what in Quebec are mandatory for winter. (yes, by law U need winter vs all season, subject to fines)
One problem is those soft winters wear out real fast on asphalt come summer.

Not the exact same tread patten but John Deere 2032/38R offers what they call a R3 radial tire that is very similar and has been out a couple of years now. They seem to be a hit for JD.
