Snow Warning??

Same odd weather here in South Bend Bob. My wife and I were pushing the boys on the swingset Thursday evening in 50-ish weather (even got to walk on grass /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif). Right now it's about 6 degrees and we've had a couple of inches of snow since then. Supposed to get more tomorrow.

The bonus for me was seeing my culvert working! I put it in last fall out at the property. Drove by Friday and between the fast melting snow and heavy rains, the 12 inch culvert was half full. I gave myself a pat on the back /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Bob,
Please don't send anymore of your wild weather my way, /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif for last week until now you talk about a mix bag of weather...whew.

I to have many hours of ground cleaning this spring of large limbs and branches /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif
I wish I could start now in cleaning up the mess like you,but the snow to deep and I fear more unsettle weather coming. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Have a pleasant day watch out for that ice.

My sentiments exactly Bob. With household projects I get instant gratification. At work, I get involved in multi-million dollar projects, but don't see the results for several years.

Can't beat tractoring /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

It warms my heart to hear that your culvert is doing its job. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Over the summer I put in 3 culverts -- #1 was a single 12" pipe, #2 is a pair of 18-inchers, and #3 a pair of 12's. This week we're finally getting a real storm with plenty of rain and even snow (not too common for the area). The problem is that I'm over a hundred miles away from my property, and all I can do is hope the culverts are doing what they're supposed to. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Harv,
You might already know of this camrea setup.
NH Fish and Game uses this to catch porchers and watch wildlife from many miles away.
The setup kinda like the cell phone and transmit a single from the camrea to a computer so one can watch the action on a screen.
Looks like a good idea but the cost I was told for a cheap setup to start about 5k. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Thomas -

I've read about remote camera systems for applications like watching your kids in daycare while you're at work, or monitoring your summer house during the winter. Even considered installing such a setup to "keep an eye" on my mom, way up at the tractor property. These systems use telephone land lines. Haven't seen one tied into cell phone technology. Sounds like a good idea, though. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Hey Harv,
We just got another splattering of snow. Between 1000-1130, we got about 2". But, it's wet, and the sun just came out; it's melting...

Harv, I'm very familiar with your culverts. I was taking copious notes during your projects. From the sounds of your handiwork, I'd have to believe they are doing just fine.

I drove by again today and the lower temps have dried up all the runoff. A fresh coating of snow to boot. I tried to explain to my wife all the water flowing the other day but she just wouldn't believe me /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

If you get a chance, I'm sure all your TBN buddies would love to see some pics of your culverts in action. I'll try to do the same with my 35mm.

Could be a case of the blind leading the near-sighted, Rob. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I guess you're aware that that was my very first tractor project and my very first culverts. Not exactly a voice of experience. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

I'm sure all your TBN buddies would love to see some pics of your culverts in action.

I'm not so sure that all TBN'ers would get excited to see water running through a pipe, but for those who would, you can bet I'll be taking pictures, regardless of the success or failure of the culverts. I hate to even think it, but a failure might make a more interesting picture, eh? /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

The weather has been so sporadic out here that I haven't been able to get up to the property soon enough after a rain to see the culverts "in action". This current storm might put enough snow in the mountains to produce some real runoff. I'll find out next weekend.
