Snow....

And weather.com calls this a normal winter. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif
If we have another winter like this maybe a JD540 skidder w/chains,highway plow plus wing setup could be the answer for next winter. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

This storm has cost me $$$ for the trees are bent over also the top are broken off. /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif
Have had power for 14 hours for the last two an half days due to power lines down plus a transformer fire...which meant no coffee..arrrr /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif
Heck between plowing 15" of wet heavy snow plus stopping to cut big limbs and trees and I could go on.

Okay I admit I was one of them who wanted some snow to play in during Decmeber and January...how does that old saying go...if you ask you shall receive...will I shall..NO..I will not ask anymore, and if I do your welcome to come over here and kick me in the @ss!!

I do hope this winter is near the end,and you get a chance to rest up.

Great pictures and I hope you have a photo album.

Sounds like poor planning to me./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Since our house is total electric, I keep two 40# LPG bottles full in the shop with the burner for the turkey fryer for emergencies. Everything else can be let go, but the coffee must be available at all times./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Between weather.com and our local weather station we were to get two to four inches than turn to rain.WRONG
This storm has cause almost as much damage as the icestorm of 98,for homes and barns roofs are collapsing plus high winds in this area. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Sure glad to have the old woodstove and candles. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
You could say I live like the first settlers, couldn't shave..no running water except to melt the snow on the woodstove,no power, cooked over an open wood fire, and read by candle light etc..
Once the power was online..yep coffee..coffee non stop /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif than a nice long bubble bath..kinda like the tv ad..Calgon take me away. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Hope the weather has let you Bird do some tilling for you shall be plant soon...sure wish you folks down there would send high pressure of warm weather my way. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Far as planing goes,I been making little notes for next year and shall follow thru. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I guess the boys in Vermont aren't done digging out yet{except Derek}/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif for they haven't posted anything I notice.

Take care down there and enjoy the green grass.

Harv,

I am also in the snow belt area and can't wait until spring. Just when it starts to look bright it snows again. If you would be soooooo kind Harv and post some of your spring photos they would be greatly appreciated by atleast myself and am sure by other too. Thanks and hope this isn't too much of a bother.

Derek -- It sure takes some time that way, doesn't it? About every fifth year I wish I had a snowblower...but the years between are no match for the bucket and blade that I forget about it. This one would have been a snowblower year.

Enough already!

Thomas, this has been the craziest year I can remember, weather wise. Last year, I set out onions on 1/21/00 and then gradually planted the rest of the garden, a little at a time, and planted the last of it on 3/13/00. This year it's been too wet to mow or plow all year. When the clover got a foot deep, I mowed anyway - right on through the puddles. And then this past week, we had a few sunny days in the 70s. With this black clay on our place, the ground was still too wet under the surface, but the sun baked a hard crust on top. Tuesday, I tilled my brother-in-law's garden 4.5 miles from here - nice light brown soil that was damp but tilled very nicely. And I tilled mine and the adjoining neighbors and had hard clods and mud. Wednesday I tilled mine again, and Thursday once more - still hard clods just getting smaller. And Thursday and Friday my wife helped and we planted the whole garden, except for the watermelon, cantalouple, and pumpkins. Nearly wore out two old folks to work that hard two days in a row. The hardest part, of course, is not the seed for the corn, peas, beans, radishes, turnips, beets, squash, zucchini, and cucumbers, but setting out the onion, tomato, pepper, cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower plants down on your knees on those clods. I'm not very optimistic about a garden this year, but figured if we were going to have one at all we better get started because the forecast is for more showers all this week. Fortunately, we've only gotten about 12" so far today. It's going to be interesting to see whether the garden amounts to anything or not this year. I picked up the watermelon, cantaloupe, pumpkin (and some carrot) seed today to finish the job if or when it gets dry enough to get out there again.

Bird, One of these would make that a whole lot easier. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Thomas,
2" rain, 5" of snow followed by temps in the high 40's. Mud season has arrived! /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

Nothin' like being on Green Mountain time!

I've been getting a free coffee (Green Mountian, of course) on my coffee punch card seems like every other day.

Peter you better be careful... Thomas is coming and he's thirsty/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif!

Looks like you bought a tractor at the right time!

Does anybody know how a blower works on this wet 'n heavy slop we still call snow. Anybody got one in the area, I'll pay for a demo.
