Snow.....

As it turned out, we didn't get much more than the 3" or so that was on the ground early yesterday afternoon.

Un-deterred by the fact that there was really no reason to plow, I got out on the Kubota this morning anyway. (Picture attached). I ended up back-dragging with the front blade set about 1" off the gravel. Going forward it just dug in and wanted to doze the gravel - snow not deep enough/gravel not frozen enough.

Here are a couple of pictures of the inside of the shop.

The shop occupies the left side of the barn. In total it is 12' X 32' and I have it sectioned by a wall into to rooms 12 x 12 and 12 x 20. The smaller is a "clean room" for painting, finshing and my wife's ceramic studio. These pictures are of the larger section.

Here's a picture of one side of the smaller room.

We found the Hoosier-style cabinet at an antique dealer in Gerardstown WV and brought it home to re-finish and re-hab it for our kitchen.

At least you got a chance to use your tractor. Looks like you got a paint job to do on the barn next summer. Is it going to be red?

I was out playing with my BX today ... had 4-5" here. Had to try out the skid shoes and back blade! Results - without chains can plow around 9" going forward. Was pushing around 2ft snow piles going backwards. Can't wait for a bigger fall.

One thing that made me chuckle - my wife observed that I took just as long playing in the snow this winter as I did last winter with just a snow-shovel. /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

Actually, Ron - how to finish the outside of the barn was going to be my next question to the TBN group. I'll probably post it under "Projects" or "Rural Living" for wider viewing.

I'm thinking of going white but I want to use something that will last a long time. Considering solid color stain vice paint. Any thoughts?

My house and garage are sided in Vinyl. House was done in 1972 and has held up very well. I have had to make a couple of repairs from holes made by stones thrown by a lawn mower.

Pole barn is metal. Put up in 1984. I have not had any repairs to it yet.

Hip roof barn was built in 1959. Lower walls are cinder block. Painted with red barn paint from Sears. The ends of the hip roof are cedar lap. Painted with same red paint as lower portion. The ends have required some maintance every couple of years. I'm going to replace the ends with something that requires less maintance. I don't think it will be vinyl because one end faces the west. It gets hit with all the weather. May put up metal on the ends.

I don't like to paint. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif I hope to have all exterior surfaces maintance free after the barn ends are replaced.

My neighbor's barn is sided in T104. It is stained. Looks good, but he will have to do it again in a couple of years. His is 40 X 50'. That will be quite a few gallons of stain and time to complete job.
