Snowblower and crushed rock driveway

I used the largest diameter (I think that's 4" in the pics) that cleared the augurs - and I don't know if I could get a smaller diameter on.
The PVC in your picture says 2".

I have thought about trying the pipe idea but when I consider how has a 5/8" thick cutting edge wears I have to wonder if schedule 40 pipe would make a season.
Think about how it would affect a narrow, sharp edge, vs. a rounded one.

There is no good reason to have a pipe, it if you have concrete, which wears it the fastest.

On gravel, or even asphalt, it's going to last.

Mine has been on there since 2007.

Interesting, I'm on dirt and gravel and the cutting edge on my back blades or snow blades wears fairly quickly.
They are heavy blades.

Get an ATV 4WD WITH A PLOW ON THE FRONT AND BACK DRAG THE SNOW TILL YOU GET A GOOD 3" HARD PACKED BASE.
WON'T HURT TO INSTALL TIRE CHAINS ALSO IF NEEDED.
PLUS YOU CAN MAKE EXTRA $$$$ PLOWING NEIGHBORS DRIVEWAYS.
GOOD LUCK THIS WINTER
An ATV is near useless. If I wanted snow pushed over 80 feet to be sure there’s enough space come spring I would have kept my plow guy at 50.00 per storm and not spent 10K on a blower.

I have a "standard size" ATV. 700 cc - Yamaha. It's not near heavy enough to plow much snow. Unless you are talking 2" or less and for short runs.

My driveway is a mile long - gravel. I don't consider plowing unless - eight inches on the ground and it's still snowing hard. To do anything sooner - a waste of time and fuel.

My Kubota M6040 weighs 10,000 pounds and has a very heavy Rhino rear blade. When I DO plow - its fast and snow flies a good eight to ten feet off the driveway.

With these parameters I've not had to plow the driveway - even once - in the last four years.

However - I do plow out the mailbox area. Our mailman is a bit of a wimp.

We certainly don't find an ATV "near useless". My neighbor plows our 1/4" mile hilly driveway with an ATV for any light to medium snows. In heavier storms, we'll use a tractor mounted plow or the snow blower on my tractor. The ATV by far sees the most use every winter: it gets the job done in a fraction of the time that the blower or tractor plow does. It won't handle the big storms, but that's what we have the bigger equipment for.

We do our dead-end street and yard via atv. Might be 300ft worth. Not worthless to us!
