Snowblower auger shear bolts

I only use grade 5 on my meteor with the length such that there are no threads in the sheer area.
Threads are weaker and can chew up the hole.
Grade 5 is just hard enough to make a clean cut while grade 2 kinda slops B4 sheering and are harder to drive out plus they make the holes oval.
I use grade 5 on both auger and fan.
When needed the 5's sheer as they should and do it cleanly. In fact they just fall out on their own.
When I used 2's I needed a drift punch to drive them out.

PILOON, what Meteor do you have?

I got a 1.5" bolt in there and it did the job. Unfortunately a bit of the threaded area of that bolt even is still between the shear plates but most of it is non threaded. Seemed to do the job fine yesterday as I got the drive done. I can definitely fit a 1.75" bolt with more than enough clearance.

When I have a chance I'm going to head to my dealers to see what he sells for shear bolts. He's about an hour away and I'm not headed in that area for a bit.

My meteor is a 60" and I previously had a 48" that got trashed.
It was on the 48 that I experienced worn out sheer holes from soft shear bolts, I upgraded to -5's from recommendations of others as well as info on TBN
