Snowblower Snowblower trade?

Snowman,
I'm also on Plowsite and there's a lot that can be learned there. (I plow schools, banks and such with a JD 710 TLB) each winter. Anyway, have you thought of buying an old clunker jsut to plow with? I have one here for that reason. Paid 400 for a 87 Jeep with plow. Granted there are no more floor boards and it's rotted to the door handles. But, it does our 1600 ft driveway with ease. Last year is the first year I didn't use the Jeep as I used my Mahindra instead.

lamarbur;

I did consider that, but I didn't want an old clunker sitting in the driveway/yard. In addition, I figured that there would be a large risk of having something like that fail in the middle of a snowstorm or something, or just ending up costing more in repairs and headaches than its worth.

I also would have the same issue of driving home in my daily driver and then getting out and starting up the plow truck. A primary reason for me doing all of this is so that I can clear the driveway quicker and more efficiently, hence the desire to do something with my current truck.

I even thought about trading for a used 3/4 ton that is more capable than my 1/2 ton, but in the end I would be simply shelling out cash that I didn't really need to.

Snowblower trade? UPDATE: IT FITS!!

First off I want to thank Snowman (Jim) For doing the swap. I've met quite a few guys from TBN and it has always been a pleasure. His lovely wife makes a great cup of coffee!

The "make it fit" went better than I thought! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif had to make only a few minor adjustments to the snow blower sub-frame to make it fit! In the bottom photo you can see where a "little" heat was needed to bend the tubes up to match my loader frame. Only had to go about an inch, then trim the top of the tubes and drill some holes in my loader frame. Because the B2710 has a longer wheel base than the B7500. I had to move the stationary driveshaft back about four inches, this let me use both driveshafts without having to add to either one of them. (see bottom photo) One thing that is nice is that I don't have to remove any brackets for the loader or mower deck to install the blower sub-frame!
The only thing that I have to do is hook up the the shute rotator, which I think I am going to make electric! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I'm going to see about putting a window motor out of a car right on the shaft! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Hope to have this all done before it gets cold, then when the time comes, I can just put on the blower and be all set! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Looks good Von; glad you were able to do the modifications okay. I wish I had the skills/tool to be able to do stuff like that!

Re: Snowblower trade? UPDATE: IT FITS!!

Von;

Just out of curiouity, where you able to hook up the 3pt blower to your stock B2710 3pt arms? I ask because the pins that were in the two blower 3pt arm hookups were larger than the holes in my 3pt arms. I ended up using the pins from my tiller, which were just long enough.

It's possible that the 3pt arms on the B7500 are smaller (and the holes are proportionally smaller too), but I always thought that Cat I was the same throughout (same dimensions, sizes, etc).

I got it on the tractor okay - one of my check chains is bent slightly, so I need to replace it as the blower rubs the tire. The bent check chain has never been an issue with my other 3pt stuff, but the blower hookups are wide and the 3pt arms need to be at their widest setting.

Thanks

Re: Snowblower trade? UPDATE: IT FITS!!

Jim,

Just use the pins that it came with just like they were on there. I think you are useing the part that is for Cat II. I have attached a photo that show the Cat I end and where the pins should be set. If you use it this way you should have no problems with it rubbing your tires. Let me know if you have any more problems with it. Von

Re: Snowblower trade? UPDATE: IT FITS!!

My new primary snow remover (new plow, old truck). My backup is now the B7500 with FEL and Locknow 5" 3pt Blower (via Von). Can plow into piles and then blow it away for fun!
