Snowplow---Down pressure or Float

   / Snowplow---Down pressure or Float #21
Keeney--that's interesting. I have the same components for my 4110 and the lowest cutting edge point is several inches below the level of the front tires--on the order of about 3-4 inches. I have a little slop but all of the pins and pin holes could never possibly loosen to the point of not having down pressure. I can lift my front wheels well off the ground with the down pressure. Is it possible that the ram of the hydraulic cylinder is from a garden tractor front hitch, or that the quick hitch is from a smaller machine? As you said, JD's line-up for the front hitch is far from universal. Each machine has its separate component part set.

Its possible that some of the parts are incorrect, but it used to be able to generate a couple few inches of lift. Now it can only just get the weight off the front tires on a perfectly level surface.

At one point, I used the front blade for some dirt grading - I think that took its toll on some of the parts and mount points. Some of the hook-shaped mount points are clearly visibly elongated and worn.

You can probably see a bit of distortion in the photos posted in an older thread. Its worse now than back then.

Thanks for the picture. Thats a nice setup. If I understand it correctly it would be two bolts for the frame and two pins for the plow itself.

I can imagine the torque on the whole unit if you are grading. The back stays that we put in to go from the bottom of the plow frame up the midpoint of the tractor transmission started to strip up at the tractor /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Had tried to think about adding some sort of cushion or shocks. The loading might have been somewhat different from yours...fairly high speed hits on fixed objects vs a more constant grading force?
thanks

Picture for reference--Even though the 2210 has a front hitch bracket that does not need to drop the assembly as low (because of less ground clearance) the actual assembly is essentially the same as the 4100/4110 as you can see in the picture of my long-gone 2210 below. When I traded up from 2210 to 4110, the only component that would graduate was the moldboard. The attached mechanical drawing shows the detailed assembly of the unit for the 4010/4110/4115.

There is too much adverse torque put on the assembly when bulldozing, which seems to be what happened with your rig, Keeney. JD advises use of the 54" blade for snow and other grading of light, loose materials and soils, not as a bulldozer. For the old large frame 4X10 series and the old X55 series, a subframe front grading blade is offered. Here's a link: Blades and Brroms for the 4000 Ten series. I would recommend using a rear grading blade and a loader for any serious grading with the 4010/4110/4115, etc., rather than the attachment we are discussing here. However, the 54" blade is an awesome snow and light grading attachment from my experience of using one on both the 2210 and 4110.

Most of the grading was "loose material", but there were some hard high spots that got hit. Also, the clay I have is only "loose" until you drive over it once. After that, its almost as hard to dig or grade as undisturbed soil.

Later, I purchased the loader.

I plan to figure out where the majority of the looseness is this season when I set up for snow removal (may be later this week according to forecast).
