I have created the habit to go thru each of my vehicles/machines/tools once a year. When I do it, I literally go thru everything, change oil, check fluids, grease, inspect the wear items.

And then I only use it, until same month next year.

Wow.

Depending on what we are doing the machines might get greased daily. When doing heavy digging with the Skid steer as in non stop for 10-12 hr days they might get greased twice a day. Grease is cheap - repairs are not.

Unless I'm just moving a machine, it gets greased when its used. Only downside is that most of our stuff is filthy with grease blobs everywhere. We are not quite as diligent with washing as we are with greasing.

When we operated a crawler putting in underground cable it was greased everyday. I do not do that on my farm tractors but several times a year and they only get perhaps 50 hours on a year.

I've seen instances where $8 worth of grease applied to a zerk in that location over 5 years would have prevented a $3500 repair bill.

Similiar to my saying .. " Grease is worth $3.00 in the tube , $ 300.00 in the machine.
