Tractor
Kubota B2320 FEL, MMM
My first post here and as everyone else says this site is a wonderful resource of information.

Just purchased 7 acres, mostly cleared with some woods. Will need a tractor mostly for mowing with some FEL work (at least I hope so :D).
There are Orange, red, and green dealers near so that's my options. My uncle has always been a Kubota owner and loves them so that's where I will start.

My question for the Kubotas, is that there are so many models that seem very similar, at least to my untrained eye. I've scanned the specs and eventually I feel more confused. I at least would like to narrow the list down to a couple from each dealer. Originally just thought I would need at BX1850 but after reading here seems I need something a little bigger. That's where the confusion begins. From the BX2350, BX24/25 to the B series of 2320 I find it hard to much of a difference. Never owned anything more than a decend sized garden lawn tractor so all new to me.

Must say it's been fun researching though.:)

Welcome to TBN, TigerFan. With 7 acres, mostly cleared, you could probably jump into the current B7800/L2800 threads for information relevant to your needs.

If by, "mowing", you mean mostly lawn mowing combined with some use on rough ground, the B series is probably where you should start. The BX's would be best if the intended usage is almost all on lawn/smooth ground. If you're headed for the rough stuff and expect to be there awhile, better look at the smaller L's.

I imagine there will be more to do than just mow a 7 acre lawn. I've been reading all day and I think with the Kubota, the B2320/2620 looks like the way to go.

At least a b-series but up to a L4240. We have a l4200 (2 generation old L4240) and use it on 6 acres of various coverages of trees, and it is a good size. It might not be available with a midmount mower, so be sure to look at an L3940 or L3540 which definitely are. make sure you can compare the models side by side (L vs. B) and test drive.

Yes, a test drive of several machines is the best thing to do. I was looking on the net and had decided on an L3400 for my size land and uses until I drove a few. For me the L3240 was a much better fit and I love the HST + !!

Make a list of what you will do with the tractor! Put a time frame for each of the chores that you know you can live with. Can you mow weekly and afford to take three hours or will you only have two hours?

Make sure the tractor is best set for the everyday work not the once a year or occasional use! You might wind up to heavy and burn extra fuel all year long for something that might not happen that often.

Geaux Tigers!

I have been very happy with my BX 24 but have not used it in what would be considered thick wood areas or thick lot clearing. Its done everything I have asked of it so far but I only have 1 acre. The B series has a higher ground clearance so if you are clearing rougher ground, it would be a good choice for you. Of course the B series costs more as well.

Yes, geaux Tigers:D

Thanks guys. I do intend on sitting quite a few, I was just overwhelmed at what initially seemed like quite a few tractors with very similar specs. Think I'm going to start with the B2320 and go from there. Of course will want to sit on a red and green one as well and get a feel for the dealers.

Also keep in mind many forum posters are extremely biased based on their previous purchases. I have 7.5 acres, 3 acres wooded, extremely hilly and rough terrain. I mow just over 2 acres for lawn, and maintain another 13 acres (family wildflower farm) with a rear rotary mower. The BX2350 handles this without any issues.

In heavy timber, I prefer the 2350 due to its wheelbase and ability to get between mature trees.

Wifey's uncle has a B2620, but won't take it on our hills due to the higher CG.

Bottom line is that your application is unique, and its best to drive one in person, and if possible, rent or demo one on the property.
